I have been lurking here for a while. I know this is my first post and may be controversial but I would like to use what I find here in an essay I’m writing.
Bees that live in NC .. Will you be voting For or Against Amendment One. I’ll add a poll so you don’t have to post if you don’t want to.

against!!! the thing about this amendment is that i don’t know HOW anyone could possibly vote FOR it, regardless of their stance on gay marriage. I fully support gay marriage so that is a huge motivator for my voting against it, but those that support it….and knowing how it could affect unmarried women and their children, i just don’t understand how you can justify that to yourself.

I don’t live in NC so I won’t vote in this poll…but I went to undergrad there and have a ton of friends still in the area. I LOVE seeing my FB wall blow-up with their posts about it (my NC friends appear uniformly against the amendment). I love seeing how passionate they are about it, my fingers are crossed their support helps vote the measure down.

The whole amendment is absolutely ridiculous to me. There is way more to it than gay marriage — which I am completely okay with anyway. I am proud to say I am a Christian and I am voting AGAINST Amendment One.

@bestwishes: it is. I just saw a commerical where a woman was recounting her experience in a very abusive relationship. She has a court order against her former partner (father of her child) and she’s talking about how passing amendment one would nullify that restraining order because they were never married. How in the WORLD do those in favor of amendment one justify this to themselves??
I could be wrong, but I know the topic of gay marriage is a huge factor in how people feel about things…I think it’s so awful and selfish and HATEFUL that people would vote inf avor of this just to ensure that gay couples aren’t recognized as a family unit. Surely they’d have to be aware of how it would affect other, straight families. Is their hate or ignorance worth it?

Don’t forget, today is the day! Go vote if you haven’t already!

I will be voting AGAINST (wish I could vote a big “hell no!” :P). FB posts make me incredibly sad because so many people are terribly misinformed, or perhaps uninformed. I don’t think anyone could vote FOR this if they have actually researched and read the proposed amendment.

It’s so upsetting to me that anyone could consider voting for this amendment and I don’t even live in NC. I wish there was more I could do, but I sincerely hope it does not pass.

@brittanyelyse28: Against!! It’s horrible that this is even up for a vote. It most likely will eventually be shut down as unconstitutional anyway. But I pray it doesn’t come to that and gets shot down now. I don’t even understand how it’s legal for this to be up for a vote in this way.

@bestwishes: Me too! I’m a Christian and I think Jesus would be completely ashamed of us for this. How terrible to treat people in this way.

So am I, and I completely agree. Some of the most hateful things I have ever read (on Facebook) have come from very high members of churches in my area, defending Amendment One. It absolutely disgusts me.

I have never been so ashamed to call NC home. I cannot believe this passed.
