Hey guys! Needing some ideas here and good ol’ google isn’t being much help. My dad’s 60th birthday party is on the 15th and my mom asked me to plan some fun party games.
For a little backstory, my dad had a heart attack when I was 8 and his health has been declining ever since. About 6 years ago the doctors told us he probably had about 6 months to a year left. Last July we were in the hospital saying our goodbyes, but then they miraculously stabilized him and he got better. He’s doing really well now, if you met him you’d have no idea he’s in heart failure. I said all of that to say that the fact that he made it to 60 is a miracle and I really want this birthday party to be great.
I am really feeling pressure to find some fun games that he would enjoy. Obviously he can’t do anything very physical. The only thing I’ve come up with so far is to sit him in a chair up front and more or less play the game “Things” with the guests (ex. “Things Rusty would do if he had super powers”) and have my dad pick the best answer. Other than that I’m kinda stumped. I’m leaning more toward trivia type games, but not sure what else to do? If anyone has any ideas, I’d super appreciate them.

@swanks4tw: Simon Says is a hysterical option, especially if people have been drinking, your dad can be Simon and everyone else has to do what he says.
Red Light/Green Light works too, he can be the stoplight and if you want to spice it up, have everyone wear swim fins.
A great way to get the most participation out of your guests is =BRIBERY!
Door prizes, gift cards, a treasure chest, dumb hats.. you name it, people will literally try and kill each other just to get it.

@swanks4tw: You could make a game of Jeopardy or Who Wants to be a Millionaire or Deal or No Deal with a little creativity. Jeopardy would probably be the easiest using slides, a power point and a projector. Also, have you ever played Apples to Apples? That’s a sit-down game that can be fun for a whole group.
How many people are attending?

You could also do 20 questions of who knows your dad best and have all the guest answer. It could be fill in the blank or multiple choice…
In highschool, Dad was voted:
a) class clown
b) biggest jock
c) most winning personality
d) biggest bookworm
(obviously making these up but something like that) The questions could span his 60 year life.

I would just go with various board/card games. I don’t think the games need to be birthday party specific.

@newlynesting: +1 to Apples to Apples. There’s a more “adult” version called Cards Against Humanity… but it really depends on your crowd.
Also the classics like Charades and Pictionary are always good. Taboo is a good one too.

@MexiPino: I LOVE Cards Against Humanity!! we always end up in pain from laughing so hard.

+2 for Cards Against Humanity, but know your crowd please. Not everyone is going to be happy trying to play the card about anal beads, queefing, and bleached assholes. And those aren’t the worst ones!

These are great ideas! Thanks ladies! And we have Cards Against Humanity and all the expansion packs. We play all the time with our friends. I’ll ask my mom who all is coming lol it might be an option 🙂
