Hey Bees...I'm undecided on the BM dress, and looking for some advice!

I have always imagined that each of my girls would wear their own dress (different colour, style...think "Sex & The City: The Movie")

But when my FI decided that not only he, but all the guys would be wearing kilts, I thought it might look too busy.  So I decided that each girl should wear the same colour (Midnight blue) but could still have their own style.

My dilemna - Visually, would it look better if they are all the same fabric (and preferrably from the same designer) or have them pick out whatever they want (fabric, style)?  Or does it really matter?

The reasons I'm for the same fabric/designer is that I can pick out a selection for the girls to choose from, but they still have a "choice."  BUT - the selection may not appeal to everyone (despite my efforts) for a number of reasons (style, price).  BUT (again) - if I let them choose whatever they way, I'm worried it will look busy, or that they might choose something that isn't appropriate.

(The guys are going to look very similar to this, minus the red lines in the kilt): http://www.highlandstore.com/acatalog/kilt_packages_deluxe_side.jpg

I've seen some pictures of wedding parties with same color, different fabrics, and different designers, and it looks great. But I've also seen some that could have looked better.

I'm having the same dilemma as you. I have 3 BMs. We're going for something knee length with straps or sleeves. I'm going to have them buy all the blue dresses that might work from department stores and online (only ones that can be returned for free with free shipping) and then we are going to get together to see which dresses will work together. This is the only way I have figured to do this. I think you have to see the dresses on the girls all together to know what fabrics and styles will work or not. But if we can't find 3 dresses that look right together, plan B is going with one color and designer of bridesmaids dresses, but they'll each get to pick their own style.

    Hello,

All my girls are wearing the same dress so I can't relate, but I will tell you that I suggest you find out what fabrics compliment each other. This way they have options as you want them to, but you have control over not having it look like a fabric parade.

I think it's nice of you to give them options, just remember that you can't just say anything goes because who knows what you'll end up with. Suggest perhaps 3 complimenting fabrics or colors to choose from and have them choose a style and neckline that suits them.
