Hey-I am also getting married in Chicago during bad weather. I have the same questions about the veil and train, but am also wondering where you are going to take cool indoor pics! Thanks!
I took all our portraits before the wedding with my dress bustled because we were walking around in the grass and dust. Then we took some pictures afterward with my dress unbustled. So I don't have a ton with it unbustled but I for me it was enough. Most of my pictures included the veil, I wore it until after the ceremony and then took it off. There aren't a lot of pictures of us after the ceremony except for cake cutting and first dance.
BDF19 - We are having our pictures taken at Navy Pier and Union Station. I also looked at Garfield Park Observatory and Lincoln Park Observatory - those were gorgeous but not location friendly as it was out of the way.
I should note that Navy Pier does charge a location fee but I was willing to bite the bullet on that one to get some picturesque shots in warmth!
Since our limo bus was late, we only ended up taking outside photos - north ave beach and michigan ave. Our only indoors ones were at the Newberry. I did bustle and no veil for outside photos. Unbustled with veil for inside, but that was only b/c it was our final destination - where the ceremony was. If we would have gone to other indoor locations, I would have stayed bustled and no veil, just for walking on the sidewalks etc. It can be so slushy.
we did ours prior to the ceremony too. It was good weather but we tromped around in dirt and dust and the woods. I had my dress unbustled a majority of the time because it looked INCREDIBLE. The pics were more dramatic. And no veil. Here are a few so you can see- image it with a bustle, theyd still have been gorgeous but not as dramatic (and my dress stayed clean =o) )
crap most of them are too large. Check out my other string here for photos

I would love some advice from the hive - I'm getting married in FIVE days!
I should note that our pictures are being done in the afternoon prior to the ceremony which starts at 7pm to take advantage of available daylight.
Given the slushy and cold weather in Chicago I decided to avoid any outdoor pictures and am going indoors. My question is do I go with bustling my dress and taking pictures that way? I'm afraid that my wedding dress will be filthy with the dress unbustled even while walking around indoors...
My seamstress mentioned that most photographers like to photograph the dress unbustled but I would hate to ask my MOH to hold my dress train everywhere I go.
Also, at my hair trial we decided to go with a half updo - after putting on the veil, it was a shame that the veil hid all the detail of my hairstyle. Do most wedding photos include the veil?
Thanks in advance for your input and help!
