That sounds good or just put some bows on the wall if that is what your issue is.  You can dress it up with table covers, chair covers and your center pieces.

Our venue is all wood walls, and lots of wooden beams.  We’re using chocolate browns, greens and other “nature” colors, so it actually helps to have that natural base to work off of.  Generally, we found it was easier to go along with the room’s own decor rather than fight against it in an attempt to make it look modern .

Drape and uplights sound like a good option for you if you don’t want the wood paneled walls as your backdrop.

I agree with charismaclassic–make the brown walls work for you by building your color palette off of it.  Brown doesn’t have to be one of your main colors, but if you plan things to work with the brown, it’ll look lovely and be much, much easier than trying to disguise the walls.
