Hello Hive...I am new to this (well who isn't) but am needing advice on veil placement.  I am not even 5'1", planning on wearing a loose updo and have an elbow length veil.  My dress is strapless with a mild sweetheart neckline, summer wedding near the beach in Seattle...fairly casual.

Question is: do I wear the veil over the updo/hair or under the updo?  I know you can go either way but remember, I am going for height here.  Plus I am a fairly young looking bride for being 27 and a little added sophitication wouldn't hurt!  Thanks in advance for the advice!

    Thanks Hive, <3 Miss Penguin

I wanted to say welcome first and foremost!  I'm excited to see another Seattle member.

Secondly, I feel you on the height thing...  I think the best way to add height is on your feet.  I think sometimes a veil can seem like a roof and accentuate height issues if it is heavy lace or more structural, so I'd keep it light.

As for on top of hair or underneath, I'd say try some on and see what looks best on you.  I found that a regular veil wasn't the best look for me... which was kind of sad because I really wanted one.  Luckily, birdcage looked great!

I feel ya on being vertically challenged! I'm doing my veil on top so I can take it off for the reception. So I guess it just depends on how long you plan on wearing it.

Thank you ladies, for some reason I forgot about the fact that you can try them on ahead of time!  Wow, what a spacey moment.

I think because I am making my veil I am feeling extra pressure to know what I want right now.  I will be sure to try on veils soon, before making my own.  Plus I agree, add height to the feet, not the head and keeping the whole look light.

So glad I joined the hive, thanks!
