Hey guys, I'm planning a wedding in Michigan. I'm actually from Southern California, but my Fiance's is from MI and his entire family lives there. We wanted to have a wedding in June 2012 with a fishing theme, out on Lake Michigan with a yellow and green color scheme. BUT, news just came that march of 2012 my fiance will be deploying to Afghan... He's a United States Marine. I'm thinking we should push for a winter wedding now. The only problem, the entire idea does not fit for a winter wedding with snow all around us. First, is a fishing themed brightly colored wedding even suitable for winter time? Also, and good INDOOR venues around Grand Rapids Michigan? I'm not from there, and obviously don't know where to look for a venue. I'm a southern California girl, so the idea of snow in winter hasn't completly made sense. Advice would be sooo greatly appreciated!

Hi! I'm from West Michigan, so I'm very familiar with the Grand Rapids area. I'm so sorry about your fiance's deployment. That must be so hard!

I love the idea of a fishing-themed wedding, but I'm not sure how well that would work in the winter. That being said, there are some beautiful venues in Grand Rapids. The J.W. Marriot hotel, and the Amway Grand are both gorgeous. There's also the Frederik Meijer Gardens, which has some very pretty indoor space.

Hi Jordan. Planned a friend's wedding at Lake Michigan last June (2010). Check out the Holland Fish and Game Club. A really nice venue. Also, Above & Beyond Catering is outstanding. Talk to Dave H. Message me if you need anything else. God Bless!
