Hi everyone! I am recently engaged, and we are not planning on looking specifically at venues for a few months – but I have heard that venues where I live are VERY expensive. I live in Monterey, CA, and we are hoping to have our wedding somewhere around here (Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel, Pebble Beach, etc). Also in the potential list are Big Sur and maybe as far south as Morro Bay, Pismo Beach or Avila Beach…maybe even Santa Barbara. Has anyone had experience with planning in this area, or have you had your wedding in any of these places? Just starting to scratch the surface for ideas and get some thoughts from the experienced!!! Thanks!!!

@DrD711: Hi DrD711, I’m getting married in Santa Barbara in 4 months. When I first got engaged, I was pretty overwhelmed with all of the choices for finding a wedding venue. If you’re looking to find out how much a wedding costs at venues, I found the site wedding-spot.com to be very helpful. You can search venues by area and budget and they have this tool that calculates the overall cost of getting married there.
I recently attended my cousin’s wedding at Broken Earth Winery in Paso Robles, and it was gorgeous there. My cousin told me that it was also pretty affordable. Anyway, good luck venue hunting! It’s a lot of work, but totally worth it once you find the perfect one.

@beelicious23: Thank you for your reply and the website suggestion! I’m so glad something like that exists. Also, thanks for mentioning that winery in Paso! Though we live up in Montery, I wouldn’t be opposed to a wedding down that way because my fiance went to Cal Poly and he and his friends all love it down there…as do I! May I ask about your venue in Santa Barbara? I sorta looked at a few online there this week… I don’t know much about that area but I’ve always loved it whenever I’ve passed through.

We’re having our wedding in Paso Robles at Cass Winery. Paso has some gorgeous venues. My favorites are Pear Valley, Still Waters.
One thing to think of, that we didn’t really realize, is to pay attention to how easy a venue is to get to. I sort of wish we had picked one that’s not as far out as we did.
