@SouthernBee33:  I thought it was Titanium that you can’t cut off? My DH has Tungsten, and it works for him. The issue with Tungsten is that it can’t be resized so if DH gains weight/gets puffy, he will need to get a new ring as opposed to getting his current one resized. I heard that Tungsten can shatter – I believe a Bee had that experience recently with her DH’s ring.

@SouthernBee33:  I talked to a jeweler before I got DH’s tungsten ring and he said that it’s a myth that they can’t be cut off. DH absolutely loves his tungsten ring. He loves how it’s very masculine. he doesn’t know it, but I bought it on amazon.com for $20 lol. He thinks I got it from JBR where they run about $300

Titanium can be cut off, with some difficulty. Tungsten cannot, but only because it shatters. Bottom line, both can be removed in an emergency.

We were thinking about tungsten for him until I found out just how easily it shatters- literally a just a tap, or a drop from waist height can do it (I found a news story about a groom whose ring broke while he was dancing at his wedding reception!). Google it, there are tons of videos.

We haven’t decided yet but we are going to choose between cobalt chrome ($), palladium ($$), or platinum ($$$) for him.

We decided on tungston for my FI’s ring. It can absolutely be removed in an emergency – it cannot be cut off but it can be shattered with a specific tool. I’ve heard multiple stories of tungston shattering if it’s dropped on a tile floor or something, but I’ve also heard multiple stories of people who have had their tungston rings for 20+ years without anything happening to them. The good news is they’re pretty inexpensive, so replacing them wouldn’t be too much of a financial burden.

My FI likes tungston for the color and the weight, and the fact that it can’t be scratched.

My FI wants tungsten as well or anything that’s strong and black in color.  I might order his from titaniumbuzz.com because they have rings in the style of motorcycle treads (he LOVES his motorcycle!) and it’s only about $299 which is not bad because in the retail stores, most of the tungsten rings are costing about $400-450.

I didn’t know tungsten could break so easily!! I might to tell my FI that and I’ll look on the website to see if they have another material in the same dsign.

Thanks for the heads up!

@SouthernBee33:

That’s something I never thought about.  I’m wondering about this now too!

@SouthernBee33:  I honestly don’t have a lot of experience on etsy so I can’t really answer your question very well. I believe that amazon deals with actual companies, where etsy is individuals, so it tends to be much less professional. I’ve heard of people having a lot of problems with etsy sellers, but I have heard good stories too. I guess it would somewhat comperable to ebay.

I’m not sure what your budget is, but I got my FI a titanium and carbon fiber ring from Zales? I think for like 150. Not too bad, and he loves it, he works in the oil field and hasn’t had any issues with it so far.

@SouthernBee33:  My FI is also a police officer and has the same critieria – nothing flashy, needs lightweight. We looked at bands a couple weeks ago and he liked a titanium band. It was black with two small stripes of a different color that I cannot remember, lol. The tungsten was really heavy when compared to the titanium.
