@Haute_mama:  If you can’t get the size chart from the place where you’re ordering it or directly from the designer (seems odd), try comparing your measurements to the ones listed on preownedweddingdresses.com.

@Haute_mama:  There won’t be a size chart, but you can see the measurements of real brides who wore her (and e-mail them to see what they think about fit).

I had a designer dress with a seamless lace skirt that was taken through the hips and still looked like it was woven right onto my body.  A good seamstress doesn’t need a lot of time to take in even a very detailed dress, especially if you make your appointments with them before the dress comes in.  Letting it out is another story.  Good luck!

I wish I could remember my measurements for you, but I know they are all a little bigger than yours, the store measured me and ordered a size 6, and it was HUGE on my all around.  I paid a ton in alterations to get it taken in to almost a 2!  So yes, Monique dresses definitely run bigger than others (I wore an 8 in most other dresses).  I can tell you though that I was much happier to spend a fortune getting the dress taken in than I would have been if it was too small and they were unable to let it out!

I think if you stick with the 4 it will likely be a bit big, but again, you would rather it be too big than too small

Hi Haute Mama- RKBecker is right…it is far better to have your dress a little big than too small. I have the Monique Lhuillier “Shelby” dress and they had me order it in a size 10 even though I normally wear a size 4 or 6! the dress came in and was a bit big but much easier to fix. Also, I read you said you are ordering the dress online? Are you sure it is a real ML? They will not let you order her dresses online, only from a salon location. I ask because I know there are alot of websites out there that say they make her gowns for a fraction of the price…just be careful as Monique Lhuillier is currently in ligitation with these online companies and most are going out of business.

Good luck!

@Haute_mama:

Hi, not sure if you’ve purchased your dress yet, but I found ML sizing to be quite a bit different from other designers and varied from dress to dress.

I was pretty much an exact 8 in other designer dress, usually they would need to come in at the waist, except Rivini, actually where a 10 was perfect. In ML, some of the newer styles a 10 would be just about perfect. In the monet, scarlet, and miranda, I tried on a 6 and they would need to come in. Maybe it’s because they’ve been tried on many times?

I’m not sure of my exact measurements, but I’m a Jcrew size 4 and I would buy a 6 in the scarlet, monet, miranda and have it tailored, and probably a 10 in some of the other styles (maybe an 8 — planning on going on a wedding diet!)

I found the sample 8 to be large in the torso on my (size 2-3 at J. Crew, Banana Republic, etc.).  I didn’t try a 6, but I have a feeling it’s be a little snug in the hips (I’m an hourglass).
