@Ryansgirl:  I just moved to New Orleans! 🙂

Stay in Central Business District. My family has stayed at the La Quinta and said it was cheaper than others around and included breakfast.

I just ate at the Palace Cafe and it was WONDERFUL! not too stuffy or too expensive

I don’t know about NYE events because I just moved 🙂

Check out the Mansions in Garden District on the streetcar, Frenchman Street, Jackson Square, Tarot Card readers, Swamp tours, Ghost Tours, Cafe Du Monde, Horse Drawn Carriages, Jazz Boat Cruises. etc

Hope this helps. I only have limited information

@Ryansgirl:  my soon-to-be brother in law plays sax in an awesome NOLA band called Brass-A-Holics.  They’re so, so fun and play a lot of shows.  You should see if they’re playing!  There is so much live music there in general.  Have some $1 bills handy to tip street musicians, too – they’re incredibly talented.

Definitely make some time to walk around the French Quarter – it’s gorgeous.  And you should have coffee and beignets at Cafe Du Monde – it’s super famous and lovely.
