Since I couldn’t find a full-time teaching position, I signed up to be a substitute. And I’m just so confused as to how it works. I received the contract to sign in the mail, so I signed it and sent it back in. I figured I’d get a call from them or more mail so I knew how it worked, but I didn’t get anything. So I finally emailed and called them. They helped me to register for the calling system. But they have not told me anything about how pay works, if I need an ID or not, etc.
And I know it sounds stupid, but I really don’t know how the calling system really works either. I don’t want to sound like an idiot and ask them how it works. Do I have to wait for them to call me, or can I search for available jobs?

The answers to your questions are different from school district to school district, so I think you’ll have to contact the district to figure out the answers. Sorry.

The pay should be outlined in the contract. You’ll almost certainly need to fill out the standard HR forms (W-2) so they can cut you a paycheck. I would go to the actual BOE office and sit down with someone and have them walk you through it. Don’t worry about looking silly. You’ll look earnest, and interested in doing well.

The W2 forms were part of the application that I had to fill out, but there was no info about my pay in the contract.
I’m definitely going to contact them tomorrow and figure things out.
