So my younger sister and I are very close, pretty much best friends. Her boyfriend of 6 years (!!!) has recently come to me and asked me to help him pick out an engagement ring for my sister because he is planning on proposing before this summer.
She is VERY petite. 5’1, size 4 with tiny hands. Finding something other than a solitaire (which she has told me she does not want, ever) that wont overwhlem her has been very difficult.
Her boyfriend and I went to the mall on Saturday and we went into Zales. I have had AMAZING luck with them finding my gorgeous wedding band for pretty much nothing. We were looking and he came across the Vera Wang collection.
He found this ring and INSTANTLY fell in love with it, as did I because it just looks like something my siser would love.
My question is does anyone have this set or another set or ring from Vera Wang? How does it hold up? Do the diamonds fall out easily (my soon to be BIL is afraid of that). The diamonds seem to be of decent quality, not amazing, but higher than most engagement rings so thats a plus.
We took this ring into the jeweler that my husband got my ring from and they said to make this ring and band to match it would cost him $4500. This set is only $2799 and he is trying to stay under 3k so this works. I think he is just afraid to get something from a chain store so I told him I would post this just to see what you bees had to say!

I dont have a VW personally but I know that at Peoples (Canada’s Zales) they have very poor quality diamonds set into these settings so just make sure that you pay attention to the 4Cs

My ring isn’t from a chain store, and I’m not very familiar with the VW line, but I have a round center in a cushion halo like that and I love it! Good choice 😉

@GelaMac: This particular center stone at the store was an H SI2 so its not bad at all and no visable inclusions.

I had seen the VW rings and really liked them so my fiancé checked them out when he was shopping for mine. He said the diamond quality was mediocre at best and you paid for the VW name associated to it. It depends on what you’re looking for and what matters to you but my fiancé decided to skip out and get a higher quality ring.

I HAD a Vera Wang ring, http://www.zales.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12111051′ defer=’defer. I wore it with a sizer for about two weeks and then they sent it to New York to be sized. After a week of having it back I noticed that a diamond from the outter halo was missing. I called Zales and they were really nice about it and explained that when a ring is resized the diamonds may become loose. When I took it in the noticed that yet another halo diamond was missing! They sent the ring back to New York, yet again, so they could make sure the diamonds were secure and replace the missing ones. When I got the ring back I had it for a few weeks when the inner halo lost a diamond. My fiance was annoyed over the situation so we returned the ring all together and are have a ring designed.
They are gorgeous rings nonetheless and I do miss mine.

I had that exact Vera Wang ring from Zales with the total 2cts. The diamond quality is not worth what you pay not to mention i had my ring for a week before i lost 2 diamonds out of the setting. We had so many issues with zales that we got a full refund. I would stay away from zales if possiable!

Zales diamond quality is horrible, stay away!

I don’t think Zales is a great quality for the price. I’d recommend taking a photo of what you are looking for to smaller (but reputable) jewelers and see what they can do. Most of them will have less of a mark up and are more willing to work one on one with the client to satisfy their wants and needs, without going over budget.

I have a Vera wang engagement ring from zales, and I love it!!! i specifically wanted the Vera collection. I have had it for over a year and have had no problems with it. no diamonds have ever fallen out. The ring shines from evey angel because of all the diamonds!! i plan on going back to get the matching band and my fiancé wedding band! 🙂 I’m sure she will love it!!

@JemmyGee: Do you have a Costco in NY? I was told by one of our states most respected gemologist that Costco is one of the best places to buy a diamond ring. The quality is high and you get what you pay for. I checked one out with my SO last week and the rings are amazing and afordable.

I love Zales/Peoples!!!!! And I also find they have great prices. The Vera Wang collection is just amazing…every ring is gorgeous! I love the petite set he picked out, seems perfect for a petite girl. And the matching band is great.
I bought my e-ring and wedding band and just about every other piece of jewelery I own from there. My diamonds are so white and sparkly. They are H/I, I1 I2. Here’s a pic of them showing they have great quality. I love the service at Peoples and I purchased a Lifetime Protection Plan that will replace any lost stones for free. Stones that are prong-set fall out of any setting if you wear it everyday, all the time.
I highly recommend Zales/Peoples!!!

Thanks for all of your replies, bees!
My husband and I got my wedding band from Zales and it is amazing quality and I have had ZERO trouble with them or the ring. Her bf is on a pretty strict budget of 3k and deoes not want to go over that at all and to get something made will be considerably more expensive.
I actually took my sister in to try rings on today(with the suggestion of her bf) and she beelined RIGHT towards this one and loved it. My diamond is very high quality (D, VS2) and she said she she wanted a nice diamond after seeing mine and like I said, the center is an H, SI2 and very eye clean.
I texted her bf the picture of it on her hand and he plans on getting it as soon as he gets his income tax back. He’s a smart guy, he wants to pay upfront and not have to finance it since he is saving for a house. So this is the ring and I hope they do not have trouble with it. I read the reviews and all but I think 2 were excellent!

Definitely get the extended warranty from Zales.
Then all the stones are covered for life and lifetime resizing/re-rhodiuming!
My husband’s wedding band is from there and whenever we get it redipped, it’s no problem, they do it super fast and call us when it’s all done.

I am currently in battle with zales regarding my VW ering. I absoultley love my ring but the sizing has been extermely difficult. My FI proposed on 12/3 but zales ordered the wrong size so we had to take it back took over a week and a half to get the ring back and it was still to big, so then they had to special order it to get my size properly because accroding to zales only certain vendors can size and customize vw rings (the vendor is in china as me and FI found out 2 days ago) we were told the ring would take 4-6 weeks to get in and we found out yesterday it will actually be the end of march before we get it(also the manager orginally blamed us for the sizing issues, um No your people are just idiots) . Also we were told that the ring had a matching wedding band(what sold us is it would be a set)that would come out this year, come to find out in the conversation with the store manager yesterday they will not be making a wedding band to match this ring(we were lied to VW never intended to make a matching band). As much as I love this ring, I would make sure to do all your reseacrh before purchasing it, first off we have been lied to by pretty much the entire zales staff in our local store (no joke) and i can not wear the ring i currenly have because the sizer they put on it has cut up the inside of my finger. I think you need to keep all options open, I told the manager at zales yesterday this was to much of a headache for me and i was returning the ring, after looking around theyre are some great rings at the same cost as VW Just make sure you do all you research on the ring and who youll have to deal with for sizing and cleaning and so forth. Sorry for the rant but I want to make sure you realize what you could potentailly be getting into when you by a VW ring and with Zales
