So I've blogged a little about this, but I need some advice: I made a $100 deposit by credit card a few months before the wedding, and paid $1,000 by credit card the day before the wedding to Mike Mills Productions/Videotapemywedding.com, which I found on Craigslist. Someone came and recorded everything, but we never received our video (3-5 months, we were told, but I've never been able to get him to answer a phone call and he doesn't respond to emails, either... it's been 8 months now).
It's too late to dispute the charge with the credit card company, and I don't really know what to do. The address listed on his contract (which he's now taken off of the website) is just a mailbox number at some company, not an actual office address where I can go confront him. He never answers the cell phone number or emails. The website says he's no longer accepting bookings. I know a lot of couples got their videos from him very late, but now I'm worried we won't get ours at all.
What should I do? What would you do? I'm feeling pretty devastated. :(
Yeah, this totally sucks. I feel so sorry for you! Why don't you try contacting the Better Business Bureau?
Yikes... definitely report to the BBB and I would just be calling incessantly or try to actually look up an address for him where you can go confront him... IM so sorry :-(
Thanks for bumping, Aubergold! And thanks, girls, for your advice and sympathy. :) I've already reported him to the BBB. I also reached out to a local photographer who recommended him a few years ago on some review website, who has said that he'll stay on him for me, but I don't know if that will lead to anything (he also seemed surprised when a few days later Mike still had not contacted me).
I'm considering small claims, but it's a difficult process when you have to locate him first (Mike Mills is a pretty common name, as you can imagine. I have it narrowed down to a few addresses, I think, but I don't want to accidentally serve the wrong Mike Mills. ;) It's lucky I work at a law firm; I imagine this research would be a little more difficult for the average bride. :-/
@spaniel: Ugh Im so sorry...youre right I didnt even realize how common that name is but Im sure there are tons of them! I think I would take him to small claims court....whats the lowest amount of money you can take someone to court for?
Wow, good luck. If you can find him, maybe you can get a lawyer at your firm to write him a letter. Hopefully that would urge him into coughing up your video. How obnoxious!

My name is Yin and I have the same problem with you He came and recorded our wedding on Oct 2nd , 2010. The last email I got from him is on Nov 2nd and he said that he starts working on our video and will give me an estimate date . Later on, he never replied my email anymore. I keep sending an email to him everyday and he never responds to any of my mail . I didn't have his number either. I really want to have my video before my parents went back to my country. Instead, I don't even know where I can find him .If you have his number, do you mind to pass on me..

Spaniel, did you ever dispute the charges with cc? I'm curious to know if you ever got solved this.
@MzMarzipan: It is too late for me to dispute the charge--I should have done it when I first said I would in order to keep the complaint open/keep some pressure on him, but they won't do that for an old charge. Although I should try to call them again and see if they can help me come up with any other options. :(

Me too. I called the following number you have for several times
last week. After a while, one lady comes and pick up the ph that I
think may be his wife or a girlfriend but she hangs up right away as
soon as I asked for him . That 's is exact number Mike called me on
the day before my wedding and making an apointment to book and explain
his service. He is strange . He responds all emails before wedding and
he disappeared after wedding . I have some photos of him because my
photographer is so good on my wedding day that he can capture almost
every of the single moment so I have a few of Mike 's picture mixing
in our wedding pictures .. Those are evidents to make the police
easier to track him down. If you want to sue him, I 'm on the same
track . Please let me know . We 'll do together so that he can't
escape.

@yinyin25: Yeah, he is in a lot of my pictures, too. The Covina address may be a an actual business location... if it is, I think we can serve him there. If it's a mailing address only (like one of those maibox stores), I don't know if we can. I have it narrowed down to four Mike Mills in So Cal and I am pretty sure it's one of them specifically, eventually I can probably figure out his home address and serve him with papers there. I will let you know when I figure it out!
HOLY CRAP!!!! YOu ladies should send this story and his photos to the local news! Make them run the story! File a police report. He basically has stolen property right? I would post those photos everywhere I could!
@Miss Tattoo: i second this - special interest story it up and get a reporter to start harrassing him about holding couples' wedding memories hostage! he's like an evil ryan reynolds lookalike.

I'm going through the same exact thing!!! We paid our money for Mike Mills services in full on time and he couldn't deliver our video on time! Our wedding was November 7, 2009. It's been one year and almost 2 months this Friday and we still haven't received our video!!! I've called and emailed over and over again with no responses! The address he listed was a mailing address only and now I noticed he doesn't even take new bookings! What does this mean? How could he do this to people? At least respond and tell us what's going on! I'm also going to look into reporting him to the better business bureau. If anybody knows anything that could help me with locating him so I can retrieve my video would be so helpful!!! Thank you! :)
@spaniel: You would just call your local news station or newspaper or both! I can't believe the creep!
WOW this is awful ladies, my heart goes out to you!! What a douche, I really do think you should put your heads together to find him and file a claim against him to get your money AND videos back. Even if it's just raw footage, you can get someone else to edit it and he will get what he deserves. Contacting the local news is a good idea too. They might have other resources to find him as well. Something like this is worth following up on, don't just let it slide because it might be a bit difficult. It will be worth it to get this guy to face the consequences for his horrible actions! Please keep us updated! have you just tried calling him from a different phone number? he might have yours saved and knows not to answer. call from a random friends phone or something.

What I NEED to do is to go down to that address and find out if there is anything there. I am so frustrated!!
OMG. This is freaking me out because I'm an out of town bride doing everything on the net. I am so going to meet my vendors at their place of work from now on so I can have something in hand if anything hopefully goes down. I am so glad that someone was able to get her video albeit a year and a half later. There's still hope. Sorry Spaniel.

Any updates on finding Mike??? His website has been updated stating they are not accepting new bookings and they are trying to complete videos....Dont know if this is just another way to avoid clients?
It does look like he updated the front page. I remember going to his site and it didn't look like anything was wrong. Maybe it's because if you google Mike Mills Videography, all these bad threads are coming it. I hope you get resolution.
Nothing new, really. There is now a form you can fill out to get the status of your video, and it looks like he's done absolutely nothing on my video at all, over a year after the wedding (not even the very little that they told me they'd done the last time I got a response, back in August). I still can't get any response other than the auto-responder (which I got 10 days after I filled out the form, not 24-48 hours later!).
I think I found a current address. I should have some updates in the next few weeks. :)
He needs to get served to go to court. This guy sounds like such a fraud. Scamming all these brides. I hope something gets done.
I HAVE VIDEO!!! At least, I think I do. I suppose it could still be a bunch of blank discs. ;) Just got a call from the in-laws an hour ago that we got a package delivered to their house, so we went to pick them up and now I HAVE TO force myself to go to bed and watch them tomorrow. I should be able to say in 24 hours how it all turned out. Assuming they're not all blank... OMG WHAT A RELIEF!!!!!

AHHHHH!! It's great! It's so funny watching your own wedding. I had no idea I'd get to hear my husband telling his groomsmen to "hustle it up" when the music was ending. And I'd forgotten how great the speeches were. :) It's not a perfect video, but if this had come 3-5 months after the wedding like it ws supposed to, I would have been SO HAPPY!!! It's crazy watching now... couples who were dating in ths are now living together or engaged, and some who were newlyweds are now divorced, and several have passed away. A year is a long time!
I hope everyone else who is waiting on Mike Mills is able to get their video soon!

@spaniel: HOLY CRAP, Spaniel, i just found this thread and CANNOT BELIEVE you and some of our fellow bees went thru all of this drama! I'm so crazy happy you got your wedding video...and I swear you should write a blog post about it....plus i want to see some of the Spaniel edding in action! *HUGS*
