I found out on Saturday that I’m pregnant!!! Yay!
Among all of the interesting side-effects that I’ve noticed, my cats’ behavior has been the most unexpected. They’ve both been ALL OVER me. For my six-year-old cat, this is within the range of normal; she and I have been together since before my husband and I started dating, and she’s an (adorable!) spoiled child. She loves to sleep with me, and she constantly follows me around the apartment. Over the past week or so, though, it’s gotten more intense. She sneaks into my lap every chance she gets, and she favors me with very disapproving glares when I try to get up!
The change in behavior is even more pronounced with my two-year-old cat. Normally, she’s a bit of a brat; as a kitten she was abandoned on the street by neighbors and was sick and starving when we took her in, so she can get pretty aggressive about food. (We’re working on this–can’t have her aggressive around the baby!!!!) She’s pretty good with my husband, but she’s pretty sure that I MUST be edible. My skin is way softer and more appealing, I guess! I’ve got a fair number of small scars from those sharp little teeth. As I type this, though, she’s curled up in my lap as if it were the most natural thing in the world, with her tail covering her eyes.
So, anybody else? Do cats like mommy hormones? 🙂

@victorianghost: I can’t vouch for cats, but I had an unplanned pregnancy last december-february (ended in a MC @ 11wks, so I had never told anyone except my SO), and in January I had a night in with my cousin & his girlfriend. We’re all very close and hang out quite often. Their beautiful, sweet Australian shepherd would NOT leave my side! When I went to use the washroom, he came and waited outside the door to walk back with me. I ended up sleeping on their couch as I often do when we hang out, and the pup refused to go to bed with them (the first time ever, my cousin said) and instead curled up on the couch with me!
It was adorable, and made me love that dog even more!

My cat used to sleep on my stomach my entire pregnancy. She freaked out the first time she felt the baby move…then I think she ended up enjoying the movement while she napped on my belly. My cat was very affectionate during both of my pregancies. She did this with both of them.

I can’t say anything for cats, but my chihuahua loves laying over my belly, she used to love my lap. At first, I thought the kicks would scare her (I actually hoped that, I was sure her reaction was going to be hilarious), instead she just lays there and enjoys it. Surprisingly, baby calms down when the dog is there. I hoping this means they are already friends.

Yep, this is currently happening with me! I’m 18w today. My male 5yo is already a super needy’s mama’s boy, so he’s all over me all the time anyway. No change there. BUT… We also have a 2yo female, who is normally incredibly independent, and ever since I was just a few weeks along, she just KNEW. Every night when I get in bed, she hops up onto my belly to “hatch” her baby. I can’t wait to see her reaction the first time she gets kicked by the baby! Haha… She has also recently started following me around a whole lot more, including when I get in the shower. First she’d sit on the toilet and wait for me, and if I poked my head out, she’d chirp at me. But now, for the last 2-3 weeks, she has almost started to come IN the shower with me LOL… She sits on the ledge between the shower curtain and liner so she’s protected from the water, but still as close to me as possible. And little by little every day she seems to get a bit more brave, and she’ll stick her head out into the shower while I’m in there. But if she gets the tiniest splash of water on her, she’s outta there. 🙂

My one very intuitive dog that always snuggles and know when we don’t feel well knew I was pregnant before I did. I had a mc and am now 14w pregnant and both times she became uber snugly around 7dpo. Now that I’m not sick 24/7 she has stopped being my shadow so much but she still snuggles more with me then she used to. (She’s always been more DHs dog than mine).
