Hi there fellow brides/bees! This is my very first post after being a long-time lurker as I just recently got engaged! I’m super excited, but sadly already discouraged about venue/catering pricing. Perhaps I’m being too picky/unrealistic for my budget, but here’s the scoop and I hope you smart and lovely bees can help…
My family is from Philadelphia and my FI’s is from Rochester, NY. Our tentative venue/catering budget is $10,000 for ca. 100 people. (FYI – we are alotting another $10K or so for all else including bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, etc; honeymoon, however, will be separate).
I am looking (and now praying!) for venues that satisfy the following:
Location: Most favorably, venues between our two cities (i.e. the Poconos, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Lehigh-Valley, Fingerlakes region to the west of Syracuse) but also looking in Rochester/surrounding area, and would also consider a few in the Hudson Valley and Long Island if they are beautiful and price-friendly.
Price per head/Fees: under $100pp catering WITH 5 hr open bar (non-premium/well liquor is fine), and INCLUDING tax/gratuity/service charges with little (or no) site fees. Sit-down plated meal is preferable over buffet (but not out of the question).
Is this possible???? I really thought that $10K would be sufficient for finding SOMETHING that is still unique and elegant.
Just as an example of what I was pining for….initially I really wanted to look at Stroudsmoor Country Inn in the Poconos, F.E.A.S.T. Caterers at Round Hill, and Fox Hollow in Long Island, but in each case…once you add in tax/gratuity, the per person rate I think goes over $100 (although I haven’t called yet).
Perhaps I’ll just need to really restrict the guest list, but I’m flabbergasted, that $10,000 alone isn’t enough just for the venue/catering. I guess I’m really out of touch with all of this. 🙁
Thank you all in advance!!
