kortizi0:  Depending on where you live , you can usualy get the best prices by staying on the same coast- east= Cancun and Play del Carmen,  west =Puerto Vallarta and Neuvo Vallarta mainly.

Normally I would book about 2-3 months ahead but if you are flexible about where to go, you could decide to try to get a last minute bargain.

It’s June now, so you can get a good idea of last minute prices by doing a search right now.

We went to Moon Palace in Cancun for 2500 including airfare and I would recommend it! It is reasonably priced for a classy, top-notch all-inclusive resort- our room even had a big jacuzzi. Great included restaurants, and they have Chi blow dryers and straightners in every room. It was so much nicer than I expected for the price! And there are other palace resorts in/near Cancun that are adult-only if that’s something you guys want. Jamaica is also really afforable-  you can get flights + a stay at an all inclusive for under 2000. Then you would have some spending money. It’s just not as nice as Mexico 🙂

Are you anti-staying in the states? We kept looking out of country and couldn’t find anything we really liked, and that was even with a timeshare available for us to use ANYWHERE. We ended up deciding to go back to FL which we went to with friends awhile back. We are going to spend the trip enjoying it the way we wanted to the first time, lounging around, and eating lots of good food. What about renting a cabin somewhere? There are lots of cabins in the mountains that look so nice. We also looked at renting a house on Martha’s Vineyard- not as pricey as you would think!

kortizi0:  I think there are plenty of places you can go to for 2500. My husband and I just booked Cabo today for slightly less than that. We are flying from Seattle, staying at an AI, have transfers, and trip insurance. Cancun, DR, Jamaica, other areas of Mexico, Bahamas, etc. it depends what type of trip you’re looking for…

kortizi0:  I usually stay at a Riu. I stayed at the Riu Palace in Punta Cana and Cancun. I’ve also stayed at one of the Palace resorts in Cancun.

In Jamaica I stayed at the Riu about 5-6 times, Iberostar, Sunset Grande, Sunset Beach, and about 10 other hotels. I’ve been over 20 times. I’m staying at the Riu Negril in one month.

Bahamas: Atlantis

Cabo: we are staying at Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos

do you want a quieter type of vacation? Someplace lush? More built up? What types of activities? English speaking?

My best friend went to couples tower isle in jamaica and loved it.

Also if you book through a travel agent you can put a deposit then make payments up until 2 months prior to the date.  FI and I went thru liberty travel as all of our friends have used a particular travel agent there.  We booked in May 2013 for July 2014, only put down $400 deposit and just paid the balance a few weeks ago.  She also beat the prices we found online which was great.

kortizi0:  I would call Apple Vacations AND Liberty Travel and let them do the leg work. They will get you packages in your price range including transfers. We used Apple for Cabo because they were $300 cheaper. You can book everything yourself for the same amount but it will be easier to let the agent make the recommendations based on your budget. It sounds like most islands have what the two of you are looking for. I wouldn’t do Cancun bc it isn’t quiet. However, Riviera Maya or Cabo (San Jose part) are quieter areas of Mexico. DR was quiet also from what I remember.
