@caiteliz23:  Out of the places I listed, Aruba and Bahamas are very low key.

Jamaica can be too depending on the resort, the resort we stayed at was Iberostar Rose Hall Beach, it was amazing, quite, secluded, i loved it. Super quiet and relaxing

@caiteliz23:  The Dominican Republic!! Lots of very affordable all-inclusives 🙂 Just make sure you check reviews on TripAdvisor so you know it’s a good place before you book!

@caiteliz23:  If no one gets sea-sick, may I suggest a cruise?

I ALWAYS get emails for cheap cruises to the carribean/Bahamas, but unfortunately I am on the West Coast and the flights are expensive.

I am talking about 7 day cruises for $400! And remember this includes all your food and entertainment on board (dancers, singers, game shows, comedians etc). They also have a little mall and casino, theater, arcade, chapel, lounges, library etc.

The only thing you have to pay for is your alcohol and casino play on board and any activities at your ports.

I definitely recommend a cruise. You can look for a line with a personality that meshes with yours (if you’re low-key, for instance, I would NOT recommend Carnival, which is much more of a party line, and if you don’t like anything too formal then you’ll want to avoid the “luxury” lines, which would be out of budget anyway) and good ports. Just remember to budget for your tips, or better yet get a deal that has pre-paid gratuities.

I’ve been on and loved Royal Caribbean cruises, didn’t particularly like Carnival because I don’t party or drink (and the food was mediocre to say the least), and Celebrity and Princess did not impress me with their food. I’m told they’ve both improved, although I doubt Carnival has from those I’ve talked to about it.

Hi @caiteliz23:  Your WBee Profile lists your Wedding Date as June 28, 2014… is that correct ?

Because Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June 1st to November 30th… not the best time to make a trip to the Caribbean (also the HOTTEST & MOST HUMID Months)

If that is the case, I’d be saving my Caribbean Getaway for the Winter Months, when it is absolute FABULOUS in the Caribbean (December thru May).

— — —

Hurricanes are most frequent / intense usually in August, September & October… but they can & do happen in July.

They are less likely to occur if you are in the most southern Islands… so The Grenadines and below. The further south the better… the ABC Dutch Antilles Islands (Aruba – Bonaire – and Curacao rarely see Hurricanes at all)

The downside is these are also very expensive Destinations… as they are also farther away from North America (airfare costs)

The cheapest Destinations in the Caribbean are always… the countries that have the biggest issues Economically, Politically, and Socially (Health & Safety) Problems (countries that are 3rd World… or far down the 2nd World list)… so Cuba – the Dominican Republic – Jamaica – and Mexico.  And honestly I would not want to be in any of these countries if a Hurricane came along (especially the DR… which along with Haiti next door and the other surrounding Islands in the Greater Antilles get hit frequently !!)

Taking shelter, getting basic needs like food & water, or medical assistance, or being evacuated are all quite problematic as a Tourist in a 2nd or 3rd World Country at the time of a disaster (trust me… THIS IS NOT THE USA / CANADA… even a small Hurricane could look like Katrina in these circumstances)

And as much as I LOVE to cruise, Hurricanes are also the reason I won’t cruise in the Summer & Fall… think bathtub water… movement at one end, still makes for problems at the other end !!  Rough seas are not fun.

July is a GORGEOUS month for the greatest part of North America… and you can go pretty far on your budget.

What other options have you looked at ?

I’d be seriously considering places NORTH of the 37th Parallel Latitude… anything below that is going to be HOT for sure

I’m going to second PPs and suggest a cruise!  DH and I took a 7-day cruise to Bermuda for our honeymoon, and we had a special alcoholic drink package included, so it turned into a floating all-inclusive! We got it for around $2,500 in total I think including parking at the port.  We had so much fun, and 3 days in Bermuda!  DH still raves about the trip.

@caiteliz23:  Celebrity Cruises.  They are currently running their 1-2-3 go package special, which gets you the free standard alcoholic bev package (you can upgrade to the premium for like $11 pp/day, which is SO worth it.)
