@sjschuller:  I was fortunate enough to have my in-laws pay for our honeymoon. But, they booked it through cheapcaribbean.com. They’ve used the site many times and always had a great experience. We had 6 days, 7 nights in Jamaica for around $2500. This included airfare and a stay at an all-inclusive hotel. We didn’t have to pay for anything but souvenirs. I highly recommend looking into it. Good luck and congrats!

ETA: We flew out of NJ, for reference.

@sjschuller:  FI took me to an all-inclusive resort in Cancun for under 3,000 at Moon Palace to propose- I think 5 days and 6 nights and we splurged for the jacuzzi tub. Our stay came with hotel credits we used on our horse and carriage ride, private dinner on the beach, and it was the nicest place I have ever stayed, tons of activities, and the food was great! It would be a great place to honeymoon. There is a whole network of palace hotels in Mexico. This summer we also went to Jamaica and it was even more affordable, though it wasn’t as nice, it was still nice! I think all-inclusive is the way to go on a budget- we found a groupon but it sold out, but then found the same price at cheapcaribbean.com for air and all-inclusive hotel.

We did a week in Paris, France for ours and it was about $3200 with flights, hotels, excursions, and food.

A cruise will be your best friend. My husband and I were able to go on a cruise of the western caribbean including airfare for $2500.

@HeartsandSparkles:  that’s where I want to go for our honeymoon but FI is scared to go to Mexico!! I just want something to relax and enjoy. So jealous. Maybe I’ll convince him…I hope

@sjschuller:  I am sure you can find something nice on a budget like that. Have you had a look at the sites of the different cruise operators? maybe there is a destination you both would enjoy…

We’re doing two weeks in NYC, Norway, Sweden and Iceland for $4400, so if you made a shorter vacation of it (or cut things out like renting a car to drive around Iceland, flights within the countries, et cetera), you could do the same.

You can always do a little honeymoon now and take your big “dream” honeymoon after you graduate! We are taking 4 days in the mountains after our wedding and spending around 1k. Then after my truck is paid off we are going to take our big 1 week (or more!) vacation to Alaska, our dream honeymoon! It will be a couple years but the wait will be worth it to not have to put it on a credit card 🙂

@sjschuller:  OK… I’m about to talk to you like i would talk to family, please don’t feel like I’m lecturing or a knowitall or anything like that – but my best friend just went through a divorce and that is exactly the types of things they’d say. I just worry about you guys, that kind of attitude when it comes to finances can really get you in trouble, not just fiscally but puts a lot of stress on your marriage. It’s the same as well if I’m going to have one cookie I might as well have 10. 10 cookies is still a lot more damage than just one. I hope you don’t take me to be lecturing and I really don’t mean to be a bummer or anything like that, And I really hope that you guys will enjoy whatever honeymoon you decide on!

When I first got bit by the “debt-free” bug, I was planning on paying off my credit card so I would have the “freedom” to max it out completely on a sweet ass honeymoon. Thankfully I didn’t make it that far! And it was hard to ask my fiance what he thought of taking a small local honeymoon over a long weekend so we could pay off my truck early and then have the freedom to take more indulgent vacations in 3-4 years. But in the long run he is more excited about not having any payments and having FREEDOM from debt than he was about our alaskan adventure 🙂

Ok that was a little long winded and I’m sorry about all that! I just worry is all. P.S. Highly recommend Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey if any of this struck a chord with you 🙂 PM me anytime with questions.
