Have you looked into historical building, park buildings or community halls?

I’ve found that historical buildings are usually quite afford, if not downright cheap. Park buildings can be cheap, or moderate depending on where you are looking into. And community halls are also usually cheap.

At any of these places you could have the wedding outdoors and the reception indoors.

What is your budget for food, beverage, decor, etc.?  Sometimes going with a restaurant may be less expensive for the fact that they supply the linens, tables, chairs, and only have a food and bev minimum, and many times their mins on weekdays and/or weekday evenings are half of what they would be on a weekend.  I’ve called around to a few places who I found online and have received quotes for approximately 100 people for less than $6,000 including everything venue-related.

Edit: Is your budget $2k for everything ceremony/reception/food/bev/decor-related?  If so, I will be on the lookout for you!  I have seen some courthouses that have a room for rent for a few hours, for a rain option, and some can do an outdoor ceremony for no extra fee.  Another option that I absolutely love: beachside civil ceremony in Santa Barbara for approx. $1k including 40 chairs (if you want more you can rent them for an extra fee, but otherwise if it’s a short ceremony it may be ok for people to stand) then have a bbq/picnic in a local park or community center bringing sandwiches, pop, and sweets from Costco.  Let us know what you end up doing!

@xobridetobexo:  I don’t know if you want it outdoors but if you do the newland barn in hunington beach is only 80 an hour to rent.. It is all DIY. So I’m sure it’s alot of work- but it’s doable. And you just bring in all of your own vendors! I originally chose there but ended up changing venues.

@xobridetobexo:  I changed to the botinical gardens in Claremont.. But I increased my budget by alot. If you are looking to bring in your own food , ect this was the most affordable place I was able to find. The rental fees are by the hour and its literally like only 80 an hr 🙂

I completely hear you on the cost, limited options, and portions.  Santa Barbara Courthouse is one option. They have an indoor rentable space called the Mural Room.  There is also this site, which has packages for ceremonies, receptions, and a la carte options, at the SB Courthouse and at the Beach.  They also have options for photographers/videographers/cake etc.  You may also be able to either have a caterer cook onsite using bbq’s (I think my family used to hire a lady to make fresh tacos for $300 for 2 hrs), hire a food truck, or have a restaurant do a “hot drop” or pick up the food (especially if it’s an international cuisine).  Here is the link for the wedding packages:  http://montecitoweddings.com/wedding-packages/

Keep us updated!

I am in Northern Cali, and there is a botanical garden that is run through the parks district that is one of the most affordable venues in the area. Maybe they have something like that in So. Cal?

Not that familiar with your area but just keep looking and ask every friend and  acquintance  you know to help you find somethin to help you find something. It’s  amazing to find how many folks in F&B can find stuff we would not normally know about. Best of luck!
