Does anyone know where an affordable silk wedding gown is to be found? I was just out shopping and astounded that shops were asking for 2,000 for 25lb piles of polyester. I'm getting married in June and cannot think of anything that will make me less happy being swathed head to toe in something that won't breathe and weighs a ton.
So far I know of a few designers that have affordable silk gowns: Waters and Waters, JCrew, Ann Taylor, and a sole Casablanca gown. Any others?
I think Maggie Sottero gowns are often made of silk chiffon. My dress is very light -- it is the Colby gown. If it is polyester, no one I know could tell -- the chiffon is very light and delicate. I paid under $700 for my dress.
Ditto, MissRuffles. I also bought a designer silk gown for $800 as a store sample. Some samples show some wear, but the store I got mine from turn their samples over pretty quickly. My dress looked brand new.
You should also check with dress designers about getting a custom gown. When you add the cost of alterations, I think the cost is about the same.
