My historic house venue just sent me a picture of another wedding with a tent used on their patio, and I can’t imagine having to use the tent without decorating it. We are not planning on using a tent unless the forecast calls for rain, but if we do, it will have to be a frame tent because it will be installed on the patio. I really don’t want a tent ruining the look of the house, but if I do have to use a tent I want to have a plan to make it look better than the undecorated tent below!
Does anyone have any ideas for a relatively cheap way to decorate a frame tent? I would want to hide as much of the tent poles as possible, but I don’t want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on fabric. We would rent either a 30×30 or 30×40 tent, and the rental company liners look almost as bad as the poles themselves so that’s not an option.

You can add garlands and mini lights to the poles.
You can hang paper lanterns, pomanders or battery operated chandeliers.

We are buying enough tents for a 20×50 space.
We aren’t doing an extreme amount to the top of the tent, but we’re going to try to bring attention to the walls instead.
Here’s my board of how we’re decorating the reception :
We’ll be using those large round hoop lights [they are made from a hula hoop & isicle lights], probably 2 or 3 of those.
We are going to line the walls [about 6 feet worth] with pink curtain lighting [far left bottom], and then we’ll clump them together to make a lovely backdrop with gossamer [2 over from the curtain lighting].
We plan to use pink net lighting over the dance floor [2nd in from far left bottom].
We will also be doing lots of paper lanterns hung from the ceiling w/ lights in them.

@kelseymac: papaer lanters look great in tents and the look so lovely at night! They are not too expesive either!

Thanks for the ideas, ladies! I especially like the small coral colored paper laterns. I hope I can come up with something interesting to distract from the frame tent!

@kelseymac: Did you ever figure out how you are going to decorate the tent? We will have peak-to-corner lights but other than that, we don’t have anything else planned yet. I also love the coral paper lanterns. Did you happen to find some and wouldn’t mind telling me where you found them? Thanks 🙂

@alotlikelove: Since we are only using the tent in case of rain, I have decided not to decorate the tent. It will only be used for seating during dinner and all of the other events will happen inside the house, so I’m just going to use the lights provided by the rental company and nothing else. I was originally planning on holding the dancing outside but decided to move it inside since the house will look beautiful even if it’s raining! Good luck decorating your tent!

Where did you get the paper lanterns from? Especially the coral ones
