recently engaged… planning a wedding while finishing my last semester of law school and preparing to sit for the CA bar exam. I need some help, but cannot afford anything but a day-of-coordinator and we’re planning a DIY simply glamorous January 2012 wedding for 50-60 of our closest friends and family. First step… wedding and reception venue. Any ideas?

can you define ‘affordable’ and the price range you are hoping to stay under? everyone has a different definition of affordable so it’ll help to give us an idea.

@FinallyGettingMarried – Thank you. We have simple budget of $10,000. We are planning a Sunday lunch style wedding for 50 people. Although it will be a day time wedding, an elegant lady as myself must have all the glam $10,000 can buy. LOL!!! Or that my mother and I can create. 😀
We are also open to Sacramento area, as Mr. 2012 resides in Elk Grove and after graduation, I will be moving there with him.

Try San Francisco Italian Athletic club. They have a smaller room upstairs that looks over Washington Square park. Aquarium of the bay was also fairly reasonable…

Since it looks like you are willing to consider the greater Sacramento area, what about:
–Lake Natoma Inn in Folsom
–Laguna Town Hall
–Wackfor Complex in Elk Grove

A friend of mine got married in a boat house on Lake Merritt that the city rents out for events. It was beautiful! I think her budget was the same as yours, maybe a little under. For the Sacramento area (where I live), there’s a little chapel in the town of Yolo called Mary’s Chapel. I think the rental is $125 or so. You do have to clean it yourself, but it’s absolutely adorable.
