Finally, someone has spoken. I kept looking, but never bothered to start the "hello" myself. I'm glad you did.
I'm located in Washington, DC. (Silver Spring, MD to be exact) and getting married outside of Baltimore, MD.
Where are you?
Hi Tuckers19! I recognize you from the AA board on TK
And hello and congrats to all other AA brides adn grooms. I am in Atlanta
I'm also lurking over here, too. :)
But I spend most of my time at African-AmericanBrides.com. Have you guys checked out the new blog? It's at http://blog.african-americanbrides.com
Peace.
Hi Ladies!
I just noticed this new board. I am based in Chicago, but will be getting married in Philly.
Thanks for sharing the new blog site Cosmic. I didn't know about that one.
Hey!!!
I'm from L.A. and glad to see this thread. I never knew about the other website. I am going to take a look at it....I jumped the broom 2 months ago, but am still lurking around weddingbee. Congratulations to all of you!
A Philly bride also. Set to be wed Sept 12, 2009. Great to finally hear from someone and thanks for the links!
Hey. Yeah I'm over on the AA board on The Knot, I "recognize" you too.
Wedding is September 27, 2008 in Memphis, TN. I'll be moving to Champaign, IL soon to be with FI.
I didn't know about the other site. Thanks for posting cosmic!
Hey Ladies
I had no clue about the other boards thanx for the links ![]()
Our wedding date is September 20, 2008 in Antioch, CA
Its coming quick!!
hey, i was really glad to see this thread started! i'm from the sf bay area but live in southern california...getting married in dublin this august!
Hi there, glad to know there are others out there. I wonder if there are any African-American bloggers...I am a Canadian of African descent (Ghana) and originally from Montreal. I currently live in England with my Scottish fiance and we plan on getting married in Scoltand and totally planning on repping my culture. Glad to "meet" you and hope to exchange some ideas with you.
Hello all! I am married also (and still lurking on weddingbee) :) Glad to see that there are other AA brides on here too! Happy planning. We live in Jersey, but I'm from ATL and we got married in Tampa, FL where my parents are from.
I'm glad to see the AA brides posting slowly but surely! Kakita, my sister is over in Europe right now, and just left England last week, and raved about it on her travel log. She said the people are beyond friendly and helpful. The only thing she didn't like was that she said that people smoke a LOT in London (and Paris) which I found funny and ironic because I'm a smoker and she complains about it - now she's surrounded by smokers in a foreign country. Your wedding sounds like it's going to be really interesting. Congratulations!
Hey girls! I'm an AA bride in Tampa, FL. I'm moving to Chicago with my Mexican fiance in June, but the wedding will be in FL in November. Nice to say hello!
mlindsey, the smoking drives me bonkers. I've travelled a bit around Europe and the Brits and French are such avid smokers. You would love it here! Thanks for the congrats!
Hi everybody! I'm an AA bride living in NYC. The wedding is set for July 18th next year.
Hello, ladies! I am an AA bride from Chesapeake, Virginia (near Norfolk and Virginia Beach). Our wedding date is April 18, 2009.
Hello, we live on Miami Beach but I'm from Toronto. We're getting married Easter weekend next year!
Hi Ladies,
I live in New York, but am a transplant from Kentucky! I'm getting married August 30, 2008 in North Carolina. Too funny right? I'm working to accomodate familes in both the South and the East Coast area - my only issue is telling people that I have a limited number of people that can attend my wedding and not hurting peoples' feelings in the process. My family is huge and everyone is sensitive about that kind of stuff. I"m definitely tryng to hang in there with it! I'll be glad when I'm married already!
hey ladies!
i'm late jumping in but wanted to say "yes! me too! "
i'll be getting married November 1, 2008 in SC and i do have a blog...feel free to check me out at
www.4thelackofmoney.blogspot.com
Leave me a comment if you decide to drop by...
Blessings!
Hey Getmarried4Less, I came across your blog the other day. Great ideas. Hello to everyone else. I am a Caribbean bride, getting married in GA in August. Hello to all, especially the VA bride, I went to NSU - go Spartans! I didn't know about the other website as well. It seems pretty helpful though. If anyone gets a chance, check out my blog - http://adventuresofanunexpectedbridezilla.blogspot.com/
I'm so happy to see all of these other blogs! If anyone wants to exchange links, lemme know.

I'm in Ajax, ON (Greater Toroto Area) and getting married Feb 21 09. My FI is away for less than 2 months (4 in total). He's a reservist in the Navy. I'm so proud of him, and can't wait for him to get home. We had everything planned before he left, but I managed to sneak in a few surprises in his absense.
Ahhhhh! Sooooo very happy to meet Black brides on Weeding Bee! YAY! I *impatiently* await a Black Bee but until then, we can help each other out.
My parents are Costa Rican (my mom is from the Caribbean part of the country, called Limón) and Panamanian. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and identify as Afro-Latina. It's a political, pro-diasporic, & cultural identity that encompasses my heritage, culture, and complexion so I hope that you all don't mind me posting on the African American board.
I'm marrying an awesome man of West-Indian (St. Vincent/Trinidad) descent.
I just posted this issue on 1 other board, as well as on Miss Champagne's "hair clip" blog post but since I can't identify with white women's hair decisions, I was wondering if any of you could help me think of a solution to the following issue -
We're having a destination wedding in Costa Rica, and we plan to do a fun group activity - like ziplining or white water rafting - the day before the wedding to get folks to bond. The problem is that the activity is going to seriously to jack up my hair. So I don't know if we should schedule the group activity for the day after the wedding (and skip the pre-wedding bonding) or bring my hair stylist down to Costa Rica with me (he's ok; not great). Or just do my hair myself (i.e., bring lots of products, a great curling iron & blow dryer, and one of those hair clip-wig pieces with me to Costa Rica). But, using one of the stylists down there is not an option since I need personal experience with a stylist before I'll trust him/her with my hair on the BIG DAY! What do you all think? Is anyone having a destination wedding? What do you plan to do about your hair?
Thanks!
Hey Activist Bride,
I like your profile. Your work sounds fascinating. I would love to see a Black bee soon too. I don't know if it's for lack of applicants or what, but it's a little disappointing and disconcerting. It's my understanding that there has only been 2.
As for your question, while I am not sure if I am having a destination wedding yet, I have locs which adds another element to the mix. Either way, I think maybe doing your own hair with the trip the next day may be the best option. Flying down a stylist you don't seem to love and paying $400 for people who may not do your hair well seems like way too much. Perhaps you can practice a very simple style starting now until the wedding. I came across this blog http//:africanamericanweddinghairstyles.blogspot.com on the African American knot boards.
Good luck!
Hi Caribqueen!
Thanks for the info and link! I'll check it out. We'll cross our fingers for a Black Bee! Feel free to message me anytime. :) Your locks are probably sooooo beautiful!
Yeah, we all have unique hair issues. I'm going to try practicing my hairstyle. Thanks! When I was a toddler, I wanted to be a hairstylist! lol
Hi Ladies-
Nice to know that I am not the only one who notices that there aren't any african american bees, which makes me really sad because I would love to see on and get something to relate to.
Obviously, I am also a Black bride and will be getting married to a wonderful Indian man on September 5, 2009. Keep the blog rolls coming, I've enjoyed being able to see them!
Activist Bride and Caribqueen, I've been thinking about the hair issue too, tho I'm trying not to make it an "issue". I have thick, natural hair and while I'm trusting my very talented baby sister to do my hair the day of, I have no idea what I want. Activist Bride, I'm not sure what kind of hair that you have, but when I was a permie, I wouldn't do water activities before a big hair day, so I'd probably wait till after the wedding. The water there might be different and if the water is salty, that might wreak havoc on your tresses. I would def. bring my own products and hook myself up before the big day and then go buck after the wedding:).
Like some of you, I'm hungry for a Black bee. I have considered applying but because I'm not in North America, I'm not sure if they'd have me. I'm Canadian and I'll be living and getting married in Scotland so I can't really give applicable vendor reviews, etc . If I was going to apply, I'd have to start a new blog exclusively for weddings + keep up with my other blog. Decisions, decisions. That being said though, I think it would be nice to have a girl who I can personally relate to.
I'm a little late because I am not on the boards as much as I used to (officially a wife for 6 months on the 15th!) There was a black bee (but just one that I know of) Mrs. Butterscotch...she's pregnant now. Kakita, I encourage you to apply if you can keep up with the planning, blogging, having a life, etc...
Activist Bride, how nice you're getting married in Costa Rica! That was one of the first places I looked into for a honeymoon, but it was a bit pricey. It's on my list of "places to go" for sure. DO NOT bring your stylist down to Costa Rica with you for an added expense, especially if he's just ok. Don't skip the water activity. Bring your flat iron, hair products and a nice hair piece if need be, and whatever else you need to do your hair yourself but still have a good time. Put your hair up into a pretty chignon with a nice jewelled clip or a beautiful hibiscus flower (or some other pretty tropical flower) and keep it pushin'! Given your wedding locale, if I were a guest, or you for that matter, I wouldn't expect perfect pin curls. Keep it simple, sleek and beautiful so that you can enjoy ALL of your wedding activities.
Kakita: I definiely think you should aply to be a bee. Any of us can and should! My wedding isn't happening for a while and there are time restrictions to qualfy for write for the Hive, but I may apply (eventually), too. Yeah, it's definitely awesome to have women we can relate to! ![]()
mlindsey: Hi! Thanks. I checked Mrs. Butterscotch out and she's biracial (http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/10/11/wedding-picture-gifts/#more-36295). She had some good blog posts. I read through 'em, thanks to you! How exciting that she's pregnant now!! Mrs. Butterscotch did have 1 hair post: http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/07/24/butterscotch-hair-trial/#more-27761 but my hair texture is not like hers - unless I have a fresh perm. Not helpful. But then again, she didn't have a destination/weekend wedding. My hair is thick, relaxed & highlighted, and just below shoulder length. But the elements make it thick and frizzy (when I was in Panama in '07, I had to flat iron it like 5 times a day! Seriously, I should've just let it be in its "natural" state, whatever that would've been). Part of me wants to do the bonding activities the day after the wedding but that'll kill the whole point of the activity. So, I think I'll just go ahead and have the group activity on Friday (and focus on FUN, like you said). I'll dedicate that evening to washing/conditioning it and then style it the next day. It's going to be difficult b/c even though the coordinator we'll be working with said that the ceremony will take place @ sunset, in the timeline she sent, our photography session start @ 10 AM!! LOL! Anyway, I think I'll just bring a ton of hair products (and pray the airlines stop charging for the 2nd checked bag by then!), a good flat iron, a recently done relaxer, and some hair pieces with me to Costa Rica. I'd like to put a pretty pink flower in my hair. BTW, mlindsey, when and where in Costa Rica were you looking to honeymoon? It can be really inexpensive, depending on when you go and what amenities you're looking for in a hotel.
I can't wait to hear other hair anecdotes!
Thanks again for the feedback.
I'm so happy for this board. You just don't know :).
Activist bride, I am so jealous you are getting married in Costa Rica. That is one of my favorite all-time vacations. We never made it to the East coast, but we stayed in Tamarindo, Jaco and Manuel Antonio, on the Pacific coast. Where is your wedding?
I was so scared of the zipline. I don't know if I could do that the day before my wedding. However, if you are not scared of your shadow like me, go ahead and do it! It will be a mess, just from the helmets you have to wear. Just train a cousin or friend to whip your hair into shape afterwards.
hi ladies I'm joining you from NYC and I have yet to set a date yet so I'm just getting my feet wet with all of this. I notice some of you mentioning other AA sites and I was just introduce to one called mochaweddingcafe.blogspot.com, I'm getting a kick out of it, if you get a chance check it out.
Hey Girls
I "think" we will have our wedding in Chicago (since we both are here now, I am originally from D.C.) Nice to see this board/thread!
