After having been together for almost 7 years, my boyfriend and I were starting to talk pretty seriously about getting married. He kept reassuring that it would happen at some point in the future, and started suggesting we get engaged in 2012 when I finished school.
So, skip to Feb 14, which happened to be Valentines Day and our 7 year anniversary. We spent a great day together in Vancouver, enjoing the Olympics along with my parents. We had previously agreed to do an inexpensive dinner and skip gifts, as we had just booked a romantic getaway for April which was a little more expensive than we’d hoped.
So, I was initially surprised when my boyfriend suggested we stay downtown longer, while my parents went home. He then took me to this little ferry, telling me that he thought it would be a romantic/inexpensive way to get out on the water. We then headed to the base of a local mountain (we often hike to the top during the summer, and we’ve had the occasional romantic date at the super expensive restaurant at the top). I thought he was surprising me for our anniverary.
Anyways, we take the gondola to the top, he takes me to this beautiful lookout point, and reads me this lovely note he had written to me. he gave me a box of lindt chocolates (our favourite) and suggested that we have one before dinner. So of course when I open the box my dream ring is sitting in there, and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
I think I’m STILL in shock. He’s planned all these little parts of our days, without me having any clue that ANYTHING was oging to happen. he’d even talked to my parents mid-day while I was in the bathroom to ask for their permission, and explain why we’d be coming home later than them.
After 7 years, I was just so happy that I still got a romantic surprise. I know a lot of couples go and pick the ring together and plan everything, which is great, but it was just so great to have the surprise! [attachment=760117,97509] [attachment=760117,97510] [attachment=760117,97511]
