@missamysmiles:  I am having a similar wedding, and I will warn you, it does little to cut costs.  Making hundreds of little hors d’oeurves is very labour intensive, and you generally end up paying as much or more than a seated dinner. (For example, the cost of our wedding luncheon for our family attending our ceremony is $20/person, 3 courses, at a restaurant. The food cost of our cocktail reception for 100 people? $20-25/person).

If you are simply looking to save money, I would suggest a buffet style dinner. it is probably the most affordable option other than a cake and punch reception.
