We are having a day-time wedding in Napa but we and the guests are all staying in SF for the weekend. We will be back in the city on Saturday evening and we are looking for a place for an informal afterparty/bar outing. The offical wedding hotel is the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway on Van Ness Avenue so we are trying to find somewhere near the hotel (within a mile or so). Any suggestions?!

What kind of vibe are you going for?  Something quiet, more of a bar scene?  Upscale or more relaxed?

    very close to you are:

     Edinburgh Castle

definitely a pub - you can order in fish & chips delivered in newspaper - interesting venue, not fancy; live music, at least one pool table and darts - it's a hipster pub with out so much pretension

    O'Reilly's Holy Grail

oysters plus pub - haven't been to this one, but it has been around for ages

for something a little less pub and a bit more posh, there is hte Redwood Room

Hi Miss Pinot Noir, I use to live a few blocks from your hotel location, and at the time my fiancee was living in Napa- so let me know if you need any help planning!!

I would highly suggest Amalie- a wine bar a couple blocks away that also serves some food.

If you want more dive barish- there are a ton on Polk Street - Shanghai Kelly's, Greens (a bit bigger than the rest), the Buchaneer, or R Bar is a bit farther away.

If you want a dinner place on Polk- I'd suggest Street- a bit pricey, great atmosphere, a good bar and food.

A bit farther away, but still kinda close is Tosca's in North Beach.

Let me know more of what you are looking for...

Thanks for the suggestions! We are looking for a casual location where people can come and go as they please, nothing formal (or arranged with the venue), and a littly classy so we can still be dressed up and not stick out. Something with food but it doesn't need to be a full menu. The Redwood Room or a wine bar are great suggestions and just down the path we are thinking!
