Hello Ladies, I am new to the board. I am just curious about how everyone decided to budget for their engagement prints. Our photographer did a wonderful job, but I’m finding that there are too many I want to order! What percentage of your photo credit did you give to the engagement prints?
Also, he is only giving us one week to place this order which I don’t recall being in the contract. Something about storage space being too limited. Does this sound normal? I’ve paid too much to back out now, but something seems a bit fishy about the whole seven day thing. My thinking is that he does not want us to combine engagement photos and wedding photos into packages so that we end up spending more.

If it wasn’t in the contract, then you are not obligated to pick and pay within 7 days. Nicely point this out to him. If he must get rid of space, then he needs to put your images on an alternate storage device until you are ready to purchase. This is easy for him to do, and you just need to (nicely) make him aware that you are well versed in your contract.

Is there an option to buy the digital images for a flat rate? And yes, it does seem fishy that he is trying to get you to make your decission in 7 days or loose them all – that seems a bit off. Usually you have a longer period of time to order them – I know my sister ordered hers 6 to 8 months later for people who saw them and wanted them.
Get out the contract and read every word of it and see what is in it!

Our engagement session included a dvd of all images. The timeframe sounds extremely strange for a photographer because most photographers are still emailing discounts out for wedding pictures up to a year later.

Thanks for all of the input! The photographer was definitely just trying to pressure us into making an impulse buy (I didn’t think he was that type of person. He seemed very sweet). While the timeline was not in the contract, we were able to work something out and got the deadline extended. The timeline for wedding pics will be several months, but let this be a lesson for everyone else to ask about how long you have to chose your photos before you commit. I never thought that would be an issue. 🙂

If it is not stated explicitly in the contract, you are not bound to abide the deadline.
