I guess this is more or less a wellness question, although it could be a beauty question as well.
I was on Yasmin (or a generic) for close to 7 years. Earlier in the year I tried switching, because my lady time has always been somewhat extended on Yasmin (previously it was 2-3 days, then it was close to 7 at points)
Anyhow, switched to a couple different types, nothing was working well. After some problems with the clinic I was going to I got fed up and in the beginning June I said forget it. No more hormonal BC.
My face exploded in acne. Like when I was a teenager. This is the ORIGINAL reason I was on Yasmin!!! I thought it would go away. I’ve tried to take brewers yeast and tried all kinds of topical things, but it’s no good. Brewer’s yeast helped, but it isn’t solving it. Man, I have it on my back! I feel so so sad about my appearance.
I’m at a loss as to what to do. Should I go back on Yasmin? I really did hate taking the pill each and every day. Oh, also, the type of off-brand that works for me is largely discontinued. I knew of one store that carried it, and would have to see if they still had it. (I know generics are supposed to be the same, but I had a HORRIBLE reaction to the other brand! Weird!)
My skin is just so sad. Topicals are usually too harsh. I’ve also had oily skin since this started.
I can’t deal with this low self-esteem!!

I feel your pain! I too was on Yasmin generic for many years (5 years) and went off about 3-4 mo ago. I got small pimples ALL over my forehead, chest and back, and some on my cheeks. It has just recently been getting better. I used to use a plain face wash, I now just use a clean and clear with salicylic acid and use deep cleaning astringent twice a day. I still have some, but I think a combination of keeping up with these products and also my body just adjusting have made a difference.
That being said, if it is a big deal for you, go see a dermatologist! You can get medications for acne that will be more effective than things purchased OTC.

@starfish695: Unfortunately, I don’t currently have health insurance. I have access to contraceptive options, but not so much a dematologist.
I was using a salicylic acid something or other, but it actually upped my oil production since my skin is sensitive. Boo.
I have tons of small pimples, clogged pores and then I get a few ginormous guys on my face as well!! What the heck?! It’s good to hear that it’s getting better for you. It is for me a little bit, but it’s so tiring! I’m sure you know that though.

Get a recommendation from your primary for a good dermatologist. Mine recommended an excellent one.
I woudn’t go back on a pill due to acne. There are TONS of good prescription meds you can take for it.
