I am going crazy over my venue right now! Long story short, we picked our venue based on the fact that my mother had just become a member of the University Women’s Club, and their clubhouse is a giant, four-floor period mansion that we get to use for cost. This was after a bunch of venue woes, and it just made the most sense budget-wise, nevermind that FI absolutely fell in love with the place when he saw it. However, because it’s basically a scheduled appointment through my mom’s clubhouse membership, we don’t have a “contract” per say–she’s just got exclusive use of the mansion for the day of the wedding.
When we put down the deposit, we asked about bringing in outside caterers (the venue has its own kitchen and cook) and they said it wouldn’t be a problem, but that we would still have to cover the working cost of the head chef at the site. Not a problem at all, especially when we find out that the food is generally known to be horrible. So I start contacting caterers and asking for quotes, and they’re all asking to see the kitchen ahead of time. Sounds good, so I get my mom to ask the venue… and it turns out we can’t have caterers on site, we can only have catered food delivered there.
Now I’m confused because every caterer I’ve contacted has asked specifically to see the kitchen. Are there even decent caterers that deliver?! I guess a mitigating factor is that we’re doing hor doerves only, so it’s not like we need someone to deliver a whole plated dinner, but I’m starting to panic! Augh. Anybody experience anything like this, or have any advice?
