Yeah, sounds like you need to move!  DH and I lived in an apartment for 3 years and never had any noise problems with the neighbors.  It sounds like the soundproofing/insulation needs some updating there!

Neighbors are the one thing I hate about apartment life. There was a crazy cat lady that lived underneath me when I first moved into my apartment. We have no pet leases, so she snuck her two cats into the building. She apparently left her pot on the balcony one day, walked around all day long in a night gown and would start hanging things on the walls at 5:45 a.m. I don’t sleep well and when I do I’m a light sleeper so the fact she woke up me over an hour before I needed to be awake I was ready to kill her. She also left a note on my SOs car one night about where he was parked. I could also hear her having sex at all hours of the day.

@GooteyBootey:  We had loud neighbors that would fight with each other (mother and a son) and it was pretty annoying, but sometimes hilarious (think Jerry Springer).  We tried telling the management about it, but their suggestion was to just call the cops if it happened.  As terrible as it was, it definitely lit a fire under our butts to get our house.  Hopefully you guys won’t be in that apartment for too much longer.  Best of luck with the house hunt 🙂

@GooteyBootey:  Ugh! Stories like yours make me want to live with my parents just a little longer to skip the apartment phase and be able to save for a house immediately upon moving…

What would the management be able to do in this case anyway? Have a talk with them about their domestic disputes and tell them to keep it down?  I’m just asking because I’m unsure how this situation could get any better for you without them moving Undecided lol

Yep, we bought our house when we got fed up with our apartment neighbors.  One neighbor had an old hatchback that he would take to tracks on weekends, and he’d often work on his car in the parking lot.  Except that he would work on his car until midnight on weeknights and rev the engine constantly.  The thing sounded like such crap too.  The first night at our house with no stupid engine noise or loud music to deal with was awesome.

Neighbors are the biggest reason I don’t prefer apartments.

We have someone above us who is awful.  They play music super loud every night.  A couple weeks ago it sounded like he was having people over and later that night someone started SCREAMING for their life.  This guy sounded terrified, and his screams were followed by loud, irregular thumps that were probably the guy getting beat up.  It was terrifying.  My BF wanted to go up there (“It sounds like they’re killing him!”) but I was too scared something would happen to him (“You don’t know what drugs they’ve been doing or what weapons they may have!”).  Aparently a lot of people in our building, ourselves included, called the cops on him that night.  Cops came and he was arrested and it’s been pretty quiet up there since.  It was definitely very, very scary and I can’t wait until we can afford a single family, stand alone home.

One of our next door neighbors smokes in her apartment all the time – so naturally that seeps through the vents and drains!  Fantastic!

@GooteyBootey:  Ugghh…sorry you’re going through that…That kind of life sucks..You never feel like you’re totally relaxed, at least I couldn’t. I lived in an apartment for 6 months, and that’s the longest I could take. I broke the lease and moved into a house. DH and I are getting ready to buy a duplex rental property, and I hope we don’t get tenants with noise issues!

FI have lived in a 1br/1ba apartment for the past year.  It’s been wonderful.  To renew the lease though they wanted to increase rent to 1420/month which is absurd since were not in a big city nor is the apartment anything special.   We’re moving in about a week to a 2br/2ba a few towns over. So excited!   Nervous about our new neighbors though.  Fingers crossed there won’t be any major problems.

Yeah, like you said, the JOYS of living in an apartment. Ugh. I hate it! I never thought I’d have to live in one again, but I was wrong. My husband and I CAN NOT WAIT to get out of apartment living. We are hoping to find a cottage, or buy a house, but it might be awhile.

@babytoes:  Neighbors like that make you wonder how/if they are even holding down normal jobs. I mean, who can blast music late into the night anyway?

@ebarnes0:  Yum…well look at the bright side…at least it’s not marijuana and you have to walk around smelling like a  pot head everywhere you go….

Sounds like you need a better place!  DH and I have lived in the same apartment for 7 years and we love it.  We have no problem neighbors, but I think that’s probably because most of them own their apartments and aren’t renters.

Worst part of our apartment life so far was once while I was still sleeping half naked in bed one morning the grounds maintenance men just let themselves in.. ever since then I’ve felt on edge and uncomfortable. I want to be able to walk around undressed without fear of strange men walking in.. ugh
