I need some serious assistance and hopefully someone has some input. I’m in the process of customizing my aisle runner (Michael’s fabric swirly runner). Aside from the monogram and painting (thanks for the tutorials!!), FI has expressed extreme interest in bordering the runner with a ribbon or something.
I googled, I searched WB, I’m at a loss with these runners and if it’s possible without tearing the fabric or having loose ribbon everywhere…
1) Using hot glue- bad.. It hardens to a plastic consistancy which wouldn’t work to be able to roll up the runner.
2) Fabric paint- Anyone have experience with this? I’m craft-impaired, so none here!
3) I have tack glue from Wallyworld.. Don’t know if that would work either. I’d read the bottle but I lost it in my wedding closet and was getting attacked by silk plants and parts, lol…
4) Sew? Hell no! Alternatives?
Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I would use hot glue. Really. I did a petal one, and used glue. Just put cardbord under the party you’re gluing so it doesnt stick to the floor.

I would use spray on adhesive. It is more flexible.
Are you able to cut a couple of inches off one end to do some trials?

@out4answers: Yes, I thought of that after seeing petals.. Those seem to hold up fine. My only concern was would the dried hot glue be able to hold up with one continous line without cracking?
@julies1949: Hmm, I’ll have to check into that… I do have plenty of extra (100ft runner for a 28ft aisle, just in case I screw up a couple of times, ha ha)…

I just shared this post with my FI… He’s on board with trying hot glue (gotta love their logic regardless), and he seems to think the spray adhesive, while it would probably work, would be “too messy” for what he has in mind. Oh well…
Hmm…. I just don’t know!

What about tack or fabric glue?

I did a petal runner….. Below is a link to it in the gallery. I used hot glue. I tried spray adhesive and it didn’t work at all. I’m not sure how the hot glue would work on ribbon but it works great on petals and it rolled up just fine. Maybe you could test an area with ribbon and see how it does before doing the whole thing.
Mine below with using hot glue.
