Just wondering if there are any other Albuqureque brides lurking around weddingbee! I'm planning a February, 2010, wedding!
Hi Jess,
I wasn't an albuquerque bride per se. I have lived here for 3 years and went to a ton of bridal shows, but our wedding was in Florida!
There are a ton of shows it seems in albuquerque, they are very helpful IMO. Also, if you need help with finding a dress/seamstress, etc, let me know.
Good Luck and happy planning!
Hi! I know this post is from forever ago, but I never saw it because I assumed there wouldn't be a New Mexico category under local boards, so I just never checked! I'm living in Albuquerque but my wedding is going to be in Durango, CO.
It doesn't look like there are too many of us in NM! Nice to see there are a few, though. :) Happy planning...
Hi girls! I'm from Denver, but we are having our wedding in Taos next summer. Do you know of any good dj's that will work in Taos? We seem to be having the most trouble finding this vendor.
Thanks!
Keelycorin, I'm going to PM you - my brother is a DJ and he'll travel places. Since I'm getting married and I've seen the prices of DJs I can tell you that he's definitely getting underpaid (which is good for you cause he's cheap!). I'll send you his info :)
I live in Chicago but am 99% I'll be having an Albuquerque wedding! So exciting but not a lot of ABQ info online.
YEA!!! Hi Alicia :) What's bringing you to Albuquerque? Let me know if you have questions about anything ABQ related!
Im originally from Albuquerque, my whole family is there. Moved to Chicago to be with my fiancee. Love Chicago, but its super expensive.
We're thinking of having the wedding ceremony and reception at the Balloon Museum on the lawn area in the back, which is perfectly manicured. I'm a little worried about the heat, but end of May shouldnt be too too bad. Now its a matter of picking all the other vendors. How about you, where, when, how?
I've heard of a few weddings at the Balloon Museum and I've heard it's gorgeous! The end of May should be fine, I think.
I don't think they've had too many outdoor weddings and the coordinator is barely going through her first wedding season. She's really great and helpful, she just has no clue if she can find me pictures of any of their outdoor weddings, etc.
I am a little worried about cake. I know all the big players for cake shops and just wished I could find something a little more outside the box with flavors. Any suggestions?
I will also be getting married in ABQ next October. I might be posting questions about florists, DJs,etc, because I also don't live in ABQ right now. I just returned from ABQ after checking out numerous venues. I was primarily looking at B & Bs and wasn't too impressed - I might have to go back for a second trip!!!
Yep I'm an ABQ bride! But living in Denver, so planning is pain from a distance! So glad there are few other brides on here, because the info for ABQ on the web is limited!
I'm an ABQ bride! Both me and my fiance are from here so I'm very familiar with the area. Balloon Museum is gorgeous! I think it's a great choice! I'm getting married may 22, 2010 at the hyatt tamaya outside in the hummingbird garden (lovely). The weather should be totally comfortable at that point. Still spring, not quite monsoon season :) If you aren't sold on the balloon museum try: Casa Rondena winery, the biopark, hotel albuquerque, ABQ museum of art & history, or the hyatt tamaya :)
well I signed a contract with Balloon Museum - as long as I can get through the non responsiveness of the venue, it will all be beautiful. I love love love working with Myra with Slate Street as my caterer - and I think I'm going to sign a contract with a photographer in the next few weeks. Less than 9 months to go!
What florists are you guys using? I went to the People's on Central but they were so rude to me. I was thinking about keeping the flowers simple, but I definitely want real ones. What other florists have you heard of?
We just signed with Savon Flowers (Carlisle and Candelaria). I loved the people who I talked to (Carl and Melissa). Both of them have YEARS of experience at Savon and places before that.
@rwedd I'm ordering my flowers online from costco. We're doing simple arrangements too so this was a great - super affordable - option!
I booked my photographer! She's got a photojournalistic sense of style and her black and whites are gorgeous!
More questions!!! Who have you heard is good for:
-DJ's?
-Videographers?
I've been asking around ,but haven't received too many ideas.
Loriel - my brother is a DJ now :) I personally think he's fantastic! Tell him (Chris) I told you about him www.tuffersound.com
Jesstagirl:
Thanks!! I just checked out his website, so I'll definitely email him....it's cool that he does the videography too! Hey I have a question about your bridesmaids dresses. I saw them in the other post and they are very cute. I went on the eden website, but there really wasn't any info on pricing. About how much do those dresses run? We have a few stores here in Denver that carry them, but I'm just curious!
Thanks!!
Hello Brides!
I'm from New Mexico, live in DC and getting married in Telluride. We were originally planning the wedding in Albuquerque, then Santa Fe, but ended up in Colorado. Sooo...if anyone has any questions about NM vendors, pleae ask! I had everything planned before we switched spots. I can recommend photographers, bands, florists, invitations, caterers, venues.
It definitely would have been much easier for us to get married in NM, but too easy for everyone else. Our list was huge (due to my FMIL) and we're now able to have the small wedding we want.
@elizabeth -- one of my frineds is getting married at Tamaya a week after your wedding! What a beautiful hotel!
@Greta -- Can you recommend a band from Durango? We're looking for music for our ceremony and reception and Telluride really doesn't have many options.
I just wanted to put out a big thumbs up about a bridal shop this weekend. I visited Bridal Elegance by Darlene and they were so super helpful. They let me take my time, helped with lacing up and Darlene even pulled out a dress that I think is going to be "the one". After going to Alfred Angelo and David's Bridal, it was a welcome surprise to actually find someone who knew what they were talking about and who wasn't asking me if I was going to buy this dress every five seconds. In fact, she said I should come back with a digital camera to ensure the decision. And they have an amazing selection of dresses!
Hi everyone! I grew up in ABQ and currently live in the DC area. I am getting married in ABQ next October. I was wondering if any of you have come across some nice (and affordable) venues in ABQ that do have dedicated caterers or catering requirements. We will be having an East Indian wedding, and absolutely need to serve E. Indian food at the wedding.
It would have been easy to get married at a B&B, but I have not been impressed by the B&Bs in the ABQ area. We are traveling to NM next weekend, and I really want to finalize the venue at that time. Does anyone have suggestions for venues we should visit during the trip?
Many thanks!
whoops..made a typo.
I am looking for venues that DO NOT have dedicated caterers or catering requirements
@bearlypanda I don't know about their catering requirments, but Los Poblanos is BEAUTIFUl! http://www.lospoblanos.com. For another really good ABQ resource, check out http://www.itsatrip.org/trip-planning/weddings/default.aspx
Good luck!
Bearlypanda,
You might want to call Jan Can Cook, 505-350-0600. She is a fab caterer and her husband does cakes that look like buildings. She is a private caterer and she can tell you WHERE she has catered. I am a bartender on-call. If you should need my services, call me 505-379-6808. My website is being designed now and should be done in a few weeks, ABQBartender.com. Best of luck.
A few places that do allow outside caterers:
Balloon Museum (though you have to go through a large process to get them approved)
Albuquerque Museum
Explora
Los Poblanos also does but they charge a whole lot for you to allow you to bring in an outside caterer.
Hi! Barcelona Suites has a nice atrium and they allow outside caterers. El Zocalo in Bernalillo also allows outside caterers ( if I remember correctly from my venue search). Good luck!!!
for those of you looking for dresses - Bridal Elegance by Darlene is having a one day sale on November 11th - 30% - 50% off!
Thanks for the heads up about the sale! I wish I was going to be home for that - I still need a veil and could really use a 50% off.
I want to thank everyone who gave me information about venues and photographers in NM. My fiance and I made the trip this weekend, and booked both!
I might bug you when we go on our next trip to NM -We will probably get the flowers, cakes, decorations done by that time. ( I think we will have a small cake and cupcakes for our guests. Does anyone know of a good cupcake place?)
Feb in Santa FE! I am another ABQ bride, and I just got engaged last week and have little to no time...I think I have found a venue, anyone have any experience with Hacienda de Dona Andrea in Santa fe? Thanks!
I just got back from a quick trip to the National Hispanic Cultural Center and was reminded just how beautiful the Roy E Disney Hall is... It would be an amazing spot for a reception. Just a thought in case anyone is searching :)
all of their locations are so so so beautiful at the NHCC. Im thinking of taking our wedding pictures there!
@alicia-s oh please post them if you decide to! I'd love to see them.
Another ABQ bride here... wanted to share my information.
Ceremony - We wanted an outdoor ceremony originally but couldn't make it happen. We did look into the Balloon Museum and it was OK. The Old Town Plaza is awesome and all day rental fee is really reasonable, I want to say 250, because it's the same as any public park. And that's another idea... so many nice parks. First place we looked was the botanic garden; super nice with a price tag to match. If you can budget it, go for it! Also, we looked into a lot of the vineyards in and around town and they we gorgeous too. Most just didn't answer me soon enough. We settled on the UNM Alumni Chapel. I fell in love with it once I saw it, and if you're a student or alumni like my fiancee is, it's super duper cheap; if you're not a student or alumni, it's still one of the most reasonably priced venues we've found.
Reception - I really wanted either an all in one location (which UNM could have been, you can rent the ballrooms and such in the Student Union, but it is a dry campus), or a bed and breakfast. We found Albuquerque Historic B and B (http://www.albuquerquebedandbreakfasts.com/) and signed the contract right away. It's soooo beautiful and perfect. They do have a 100 guest limit. Kara is the owner and a DREAM to work with. She includes catering, all rental "stuff" (tables, chairs, all dinnerware etc), decorating, flowers, and cake, and ceremony in the price quotes. Her husband is also ordained and performs the ceremonies held there. However, you can take out whatever you want. Obviously we're not having the ceremony there, so we're not paying the ceremony and officiant fees. We're bringing in our own caterer (my fiancée's aunt owns a restaurant), so we cut that cost too. Kara decorated the whole place in your colors and everything. (overall the reception price will be around $4000)
The florist we're using is Tiger Lilly florist. Our price quote with Kara includes $500 with Tiger Lilly. She work's from her home and does amazing work (http://www.tigerlilyfloral.com/). She is NOT your traditional roses and carnations florist and really loves to do creative work within your budget, personality, and colors. I'm thrilled to work with her.
Our reception cost also includes $375 for the cake (cake for 100) at Patisserie C (http://www.patisseriec.com/). The website does not have a good example of her work. I haven't done a tasting yet, but talking to her, she loves doing different flavor fillings and combinations. She's not as pricey as ABC Cakes and Le Chantilly.
Stephanie
