Ok so as some of you may know I am 99.9% sure I found my dress! I know nothing about designers when starting out but I did know my budget. It just so happens that my dress is Alfred Angelo. Ive been reading some posts and I have no idea where Alfred Angelo dresses fall! I know that David's sometime has the reputation as cheap and hard to work with. Does Alfred Angelo have the same reputation or what is there reputation? Good or bad? I wanna know before I order a dress from them!

One of my dear friends (who is will be one of my bridesmaids) ordered her dress from Alfred Angelo, after she had already bought one from a smaller 'boutique' salon.  It was a fabulous dress and she believed it was much better quality than her original purchase!  I think if you LOVE this dress and you feel that it's THE ONE, the reputation of Alfred Angelo shouldn't matter at all!  Let us know which dress once you've decided :)

I had an Alfred Angelo dress, then sold it and bought a designer dress many times the price (just changed my mind on the design) and I found that the Alfred was quite well made in comparison. It was real silk and the only difference I could see between the two was that the AA has plastic crystals that were glued on and the designer dress has swarovski crystals that were hand sewn. But nobody would ever know that aside from the bride, so I thought the AA was well made for the price.

I had a friend that had an AA dress and she loved it, loved the price too etc.  She didnt mention any issues with it and since they are ordered through private salons I think the salon you choose matters more in this case.  As long as you love the dress as is (i.e. dont want a million changes to it - like I do with all the ones I try on!) I dont think you will have a problem with it!

I got alfred angelo...now I am having doubts. The new David's Bridal are so beautiful. Like you, I know my budget.

Alfred Angelo's service has been great. My dress is great, I just saw this other dress from david's and I am actually going to go try it on tonight...

    Grrr....

I should have waited I guess.

Better quality than Davids (you'd be hard pressed to find something worse than Davids...), but its no Melissa Sweet. I'd say it was middle of the road, especially their bridals. Great gowns for the price!

In my opinion, Alfred Angelo's bridesmaids collection is of higher quality than David's Bridal. I cannot say for their bridal gowns, but I would assume the AA's are nicer.  I am selecting AA designs for my bridal party. I had my MOH go to both places and to be honest, although DB is extremely affordable, (nothing wrong with budget brides), for a slightly higher price, and we're talking $25-$50, you can get a much nicer dress. Private bridal salons are almost always better to work with than retail wedding chains. My salon attendants didn't work on commision, so they really were just there to help the party get what they wanted, but the DB attendants were quite pushy and annoying. I imagine they aren't all like that tho!
I have to say one nice thing about some of the DB designs, is that quite a few of the dresses are versitile enough to be worn again for other events.

I bought my dress from Bridesmart years ago before they were bought out by AA.  It is a Maggie Sottero dress and now AA won't alter or clean the dress.  Go figure.  I am an Enore FI and bought my dress for my first wedding.  I love the dress it is a Maggie! :)

I have had an AA bridesmaid dress before.  I didn't like the style but the store was easy to work with.  I just went and bought my DB bridesmaid dress for a wedding in November and I went on Saturday. Big mistake! The place was super busy like being in Walmart on a holiday sale.  So my advice is to avoid that place on the weekends!

As for the stigma of names, no one but you and your family will know who the designer is and how much it costs, etc.  So go with the one you love!

Um... the crystals on my dress were not glued on unless glue has become very thread-like. That totally cracks me up. I doubt they are swarovski crystals but they are definitely sewn.

I found my dress to be well-made and am thrilled with it. If I were to do it all over again, I'd still consider an AA.

I am an AA bride and i think (this is strongly my opinion) AA dresses are better quality than some DB and Maggie dresses i tried on. My dress is a sapphire collections and it is made out of good material, the crystals are not plastic and it looks stunning. If i had to rethink it, i would still pick an AA dress.

Bridesmaid dresses are really good quality and the array of colors they have is amazing!

My mom bought an AA BM dress for herself and the craftsmanship is so shoddy!  It has off-the-shoulder sleeves that were sewn incorrectly, such that she can't lift her arms AT ALL in the dress.  Several seams were left basted and not finished and the boning in the front is all wrong.

I am an AA bride and my maids are AA maids.   I looked high and low before I made any decisions and I loved AA.  it was fabulous on my wallet and I need no alterations other than adding spaghetti straps.   The Maggie I tried on needed hemed, the DB I tried would have need huge amounts of altering.   My AA has real crystals on it, not plastic and all of the bead works is sewn on.  I say if you like an AA dress, go for it.

Alfred Angelo is a step up from David's Bridal, but still a good sight more affordable (and more mass-produced and targeted for mass-appeal) than most designer lines.
