Alger House Questions!

posted 5 months ago in New York City

Hi!

We've looked at so many possible wedding venues, I can't think anymore!  Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Alger House.  It's run by Green Mansions Catering and we met with the manager Jeno.  It seems like a really sweet space for a reception for about 80-100 people which we are doing.

We're also looking at the Bowery Hotel, Arthur's Landing and maybe the Seamen's Church Institute this week in case anyone's been to any of these places as well.  Thanks!!

have you had the food at the bowery hotel? everytime i walk by, i look at the food, and think it looks bad. but i haven't actually eaten there. have you tried it?

as for the other places, alger house wasn't really our style, seamen's was really nice and they were very professional there but we didn't want to have a member of the clergy officiate, and we didn't look at arthur's landing. have you looked at the metropolitan building? they have a nice space for that sized group.

The one thing to be warry of with seaman's church is that the bathrooms are not very nice, they are a bit port authority-esquq.  That being said the space is great and the view GORGEOUS!

i absolutely loved the alger house but it has to be your style.  I was between the alger house and another place and utlimately wound up going somewhere else because i felt that the alger house might be too small.  I went for a tasting there and the food was good too. My biggest reservation was that the cocktail hour and the reception would have to be held in the same room.  Although they told me that they could rope it off to make sure people wouldnt just go and sit in their seats I just wasnt into it. good luck!
