I have a question for you… Hubby is sving money to buy a ring that is a Blue Diamond center stone with White Diamond halo and side stones… We have determined the basic style but I won’t know the final weight size until he gives it to me.
What are the best things about your blue diamond and what are some things to keep in mind?

Yay blue diamonds! One thing to keep in mind when looking at blue diamonds is that there are two basic types: diamonds that started out blue, and diamonds that started out as white diamonds but were irradiated to become blue. Most blue diamonds you’ll see will be the latter. I actually have lab-grown blue diamonds from http://www.dneadiamonds.com in my engagement ring and wedding band.
Lab-grown and natural blue diamonds come in what are called “fancy” blue shades, like these:
The very light blue color tends to look like a very icy white, the medium shade more like an aquamarine, and the darker shade more like a sapphire. Irradiated blue diamonds, I have heard, tend to be more of a greenish-blue than these shades…but since I don’t have an irradiated blue diamond, I’ll let someone else talk about them!

Maybe you already know this, but a lot of people don’t, so I thought I’d share- blue diamonds (and diamonds in general) come in a bajillion shades, so if you don’t see the hue you’re looking for, ask them to get different ones. My fiance took in some colored glass in my favorite shades of blue (without my knowing, I heard about this later) to give the jewelers an idea of what he wanted, and it took a couple tries but they matched it perfectly! =)
