How old is the son? if he has exams, that makes him sound like a teen. but then he is clapping, like a small child and using the terms mommy and daddy.

In the last sentence, th writer talks about being so close to success without realizing it. This is kind of creepy, since his wife just passed. What success? Finally getting rid of his wife? Not having to look like a bad guy in front of the kid? Not having to pay a divorce lawyer?

@kerensa:  It’s obviously just a story, but for what it’s worth, in many Asian countries even young children have exams. And Snopes does say it originates from Malaysia.
