So we are about to undergo the pressure of our first christmas together… and thanks the lack of secret keeping of my 2.5 year old I am pretty sure I know what Fiance got me for christmas… and it was SOOO not what I wanted! Money is tight with all the wedding planning, tuition, and the holiday season in general, so I was hoping for something a little more sentimental (something I actually picked out and showed him lol)
What did you get your honey for your first christmas? What did he get you?
What do you do if what you give or get is totally in far left field…
(and just incase any of you are wondering I am 99% sure a Stuffed Dog is coming my way) Nothing says I love you like the same gift I got from my first boyfriend in 6th grade….
I know its not about the money and its the thought that counts, and I am sure he put thought into it but does it make me horrible to be disappointed…
The advantage I have is I have a January birthday so if I don’t get what I want for christmas I justify the purchase by getting it for myself as a birthday gift for surviving another year. :o)

Well, I don’t know if I would take the word of a 2 1/2 year old, isn’t there a pretty good chance that your guy got that for your kid and pulled a “oh crap, this is for your mom!”? I know my present hiding skills have lacked this year :/

@Belle2Be: Well under most cases I would love to think so but heres why I don’t… We got Weston (my little guy) this polar bear that is filled with wheat grain and lavendar, you can heat it up in the microwave and it holds warmth kind of like the hand warmers. The only package with my name on it smells like that… Weston said thats mommys puppy put it under the tree… after it was wrapped with my name on it…

i am not going all out on xmas presents like i normally do. every penny is going to wedding things…blah
but i bought Fiance a ton of car washing stuff – he loves his car – i also bought him a new wallet because his is falling apart, i get home last night and he is like hey like my new wallet. i wanted to scream at him “YOU DONT BUY THINGS FOR YOURSELF 3 DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS!”

A stuffed dog? I agree with Belle2Be; that might be the gift for your 2.5 yr old. But, let’s assume that IS what you get. I’d be disappointed, too, but I think there’s nothing you can say or do, really. Just hope that he learns from your thoughtful gift about how to do Christmas on a tight budget for next year.

@totheislnds: that sucks, but its kind of hilarious! hahaha
I have been raving about a certain jacket that I wanted for months and I sent him the link for it and I have been saying how excited I am (which I was!), but when I opened up my gift the other night it was a jacket, but it was NOTHING like I wanted. I mean its still a nice coat, but I handed him the perfect present on a silver platter and he just pretended like it wasnt there! He said he thought the one he bought me would be “warmer”. K, thanks for that! hahahahaha

My Fiance asked me what I want and I said a diamond tennis bracelet. I don’t really but I always gift him a crazy answer b/c he knows I like to be surprised. He, on the other hand, does not. So with the exception of one year, he has picked out his own gifts for most of the time that we have been together…and I am cool with that.

@totheislnds: LOL I repsponded this in the other post check it out!!
Agreed. Money was super tight. I save for christmas all year especially with my son so I did go a tad over board. But I found this amazing Charm bracelet on sale for $20.00 at things remembered with a double heart charm for $20.00 I figured he would be able to do something sweet and get it engraved. It was all I could do to not talk about it.
This will be the first gift he has ever gotten for me…

Now maybe if hes smart like I hope he got the bracelet and put it on the dogs neck… lol but I think thats a chick thing to think that far ahead.
I feel stupid even worring about it… But man I swear I can hear my mom now when she asks what he got me…
Money was tight he got me a stuffed animal… “thats nice… Look at your sisters diamonds” lol
Its so clear I can see it happening now. WOOO christmas.

This cracks me up… I think it’s safe to say that most men lack in the gift-buying area. 🙂 Bless their hearts for trying I guess!

After just over 10 years with my Fiance, I have learned that if I really want something, I have to get it myself. And usually wrap it myself, but at least I get what I want and I am always very excited to open the gifts on Christmas morning. Last year though, he did surprise me with some very nice slippers. They are practical and I do wear them everyday, so that is a good thing. I also used to let him know exactly what I wanted, when it was on sale, and where it was located. He still didn’t get it, so I just gave up and started getting my own gifts. It works out best that way for both of us.

My passive agressive solution:
I know its been a long 365 days, and that you are busy getting ready for a long and tiring Christmas eve. This year I have been a good girl, so I have decided to write you a Christmas wish list. While I understand that the economy is in a state of turmoil and the million dollar Santa mansion is probably facing forecloser like the rest of the world, I have included links to several affordable items that I would melt my heart to find one of them under my Christmas tree on Christmas Morning.
The above items can be located at things remembered which can be found at Brookfield Square, Mayfaire mall, Janesville mall, and South Ridge mall
Enjoy the cookies, they are not low-fat we do not believe in diets in this household, we left extras for your reindeer because no one really enjoys carrots.
p.s. Santa please do not bring me the following: Towels, household items, pillows, sheets, t-shirts, stuffed animals, cooking utensils, books, educational items, or any thing that would have been cute to give a girl in sixth grade. Please abide by these guide lines or there are no promises that i will remain on the nice list for the coming year.
p.p.s. Santa if you are really listening, and you do exist please include a sweet engraving from my honey…

Haha I love it. I had a similar situation…
I was wrapping presents the other day and one of them was to my Fiance. He picked it up (already wrapped), and said, ‘Wait, I thought we weren’t getting presents for each other this year!’ (due to budget, I said let’s keep it under $50 each)
So of course I know he ran out and bought me something last minute, and I’m sure it’ll be something silly. Oh well!

We both have Amazon wishlists that we update when there’s something we want. Each list has quite a few items on it, some of which we end up purchasing ourselves and others that can be chosen as gifts. It gives us and our families ideas. We both usually end up getting each other something from the list and something not on the list. I like this because I don’t actively have to show him what I’d like, but it gives him some ideas.
[though sounds like I’m quite lucky that in general my fiance is a very thoughtful gift giver, not just at Christmas!]

I hope it’s not the stuffed animal. That does sound like a really cool one you got your little guy!!
