    Hey All,

My girlfriend just got engaged and is looking to cut costs/trim guestlists by having a Caribbean destination wedding for NYE 2010.  She is trying not to do DR since she has been before.  Everything else is fair game and I noticed that Mexico generally has great prices.  I personally love the Secrets Silversands in Cancun, but don't know a ton about their wedding packages.

    Thanks!

We're having our wedding at Dreams Tulum.  The wedding packages are very reasonable and the setting is absolutely gorgeous!  We got a great all-inclusive price for our guests, as well.

Some friends honeymooned in Cancun a year ago and had wonderful things to say about Excellence Playa Mujeres. Here is some information on their wedding packages.

I second considering Excellence Playa Mujeres, we went there for our honeymoon last year and LOVED LOVED LOVED it there!  Pengy also went there for her honeymoon and also raved about it.  It's adults only if your friend is just having adults attend.  Plus, the place is new and is beautiful! Shoot, when we were there I was thinking we should have had our wedding there, lol.

We have been looking at Secrets Maroma beach for a honeymoon. Just today I discovered the Aura Cozumel Wyndam Grand Bay which seems to be more low key &  cheaper than some of the others. We are really into the diving/snorkeling so Cozumel seems great. CHeck out the deals on cheapcaribbean dot com. They have some amazing deals right now.

We went to Adventura Spa Palace for our honeymoon.  It was BEAUTIFUL and they treated us so great.  They also do weddings - I considered having the wedding down there for a time when I wanted to throw in the towel on planning.  http://www.palaceresorts.com/Weddings/Index.asp

Becareful when looking at resorts.  The ones in cancun and Playa Del Carmen are very public, lots of people.   Look south of Playa Del Carmen for AMAZING locations.  We are getting married on a beach in Xpu-Ha about 15 mintues south of Playa.

Something to consider as you mentioned New York... the Caribbean is closer than Mexico, in many cases.  We opted for Jamaica due to the easier air travel... most guests are coming from Eastern USA... Don't know where your friend is but this was a major factor for us.

I second BeachyBride!!  I'm getting married in Aruba because cost of flights were cheaper for us east coast people (where majority of our wedding guests are from).  But I've been really happy with the planning and the budget doing it in the Carribbean!

We are going off season (December) and flights from MI to Cancun are running about $150 round trip.  If she does it off season she will get some AMAZING deals on the rooms and flights.

We are getting married at the Palace Resorts in Cozumel. Palace has several resorts in Cancun and Riveria Maya all of the resorts look amazing and have awesome wedding packages. Check it out: http://www.palaceresorts.com/Weddings/Index.asp

The Palace Resorts have been great to work with, my future in-laws have weeks with Palalce and go to Aventura Spa in Riveria Maya almost every year. They love it!

We are fortunate enough to be going on a babymoon in February.  Originally this was going to be our big trip to Cuba, but needless to say, we are probably going to stay on the Yucatan at this point.

Has anyone stayed outside the big hotels?  The all inclusive resort is not really our style or in our price range, so we were thinking about staying in Tulum or somewhere similar.

Does anyone have any knowledge of places off the beaten path?

    Thanks for the input!

Another vote for Excellence Playa Mujeres here!! We went on our honeymoon there and it was FABULOUS!!!

@Mrs.DG The resort is off the beaten path so to speak.  You fly into Cancun and then take a car about 45 minutes North to Playa Mujeres.  Right now, Excellence is the only hotel on that beach (although they are building another one next door) and it is wonderfully secluded.

There are still plenty of excursions to go on, but while there it feels as if you own the island :)

@Heather 25 It is a wonderful place for a destination wedding and your friend is sure to love it there!
