MrsN14:  Well this may not be your preferred vacation spot, but you can do all inclusive dude ranch vacations in the Rockies for around 1k per person for up to 7 days.  Here’s the Dude Ranch Association website for Montana… different ranches charge different rates, but it could be something different for y’all:

You’ll be able to find a wonderful all inclusive for 2k!

My FI and I stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe in Punta Cana about 5 years ago. It was a really nice time, but I did have a few issues with the resort. First of all check in was a nightmare. We waited nearly 2 hours to get into our room, and when we finally did the AC wasn’t working! A few other minor things were the food in our opinion was just so so, the japanese restuarant was by far the best, but for the specialty restaurants, you’re only allowed to eat at one night out of your stay. The nightlife was nothing to be desired. They didn’t really offer a lot of shows/entertainment like some other resorts do. They did have lots of markets set up where you can by souvineers, etc, but it seemed to consist of the same stuff night after night. And the pool was overtaken by kids. I’m a preschool teacher, and hope to have kids of my own one day, so I’m a kid lover…but it was overwhelming. I think we were in the pool for all of 20 minutes during our week long stay. I think next time we go away to a resort it will be adults only.

Some positives were: the resort was very clean. The beach was beautiful!!! The excursions were a lot of fun…we swam with dolphins and went on a sunset party boat.

If you really want a lovely tropical vacation go to Aruba! I went once and cannot wait to go back. It is one of the islands that is more on the high end, but if you keep your eye out you may be able to make it work in your budget. I’ve also been to Jamaica which was a blast! The people are so friendly and welcoming, and it’s always a party!

Good luck planning your vacation!

So I have been to the Bahia Principe in Punta Cana many times, but we have stayed in the Ambar section (adults only) and the last time we stayed in the Esmeralda section (allows children but there weren’t many there at all and the newest section of the resort so it’s gorgeous).

I wouldnt stay in the Bahia Principe Punta Cana or Bavaro….they are the older sections of the resort and it is looking pretty run down in my opinion also it’s always crazy and crowded at the beach and the pools.

My parents have stayed at the Catalonia and they liked it but said they preferred the Bahia Principe Ambar and Esmeralda. I hope this helps!

Oh, and we usually find the prices are lowest about two months before you want to leave, so I would recommend booking in November (we always use http://www.selloffvacations.com.)

MrsN14:  IMO you will get better food on a cruise than at an All Inclusive, for your budget. I’ve been to both. But, a cruise might end up costing more in the end, especially if you drink and do a lot of stuff off of the ship.

I really really enjoyed Negril, Jamaica. I went there a few years ago with my friends and we stayed at the Riu Negril. Had an awesome time. The food was good, the service was great, and the beach was beautiful. I have to say that I like Jamaica better than I like Punta Cana. But both are nice.

We stayed at the Majestic Elegance in Punta Cana, DR for our honeymoon and it was amazing! I think we paid $3500 including flights from los angeles, an upgraded room for 8 nights, adults only section, transportation to/from airport, and an excursion. I’m sure you could do it for around $2k (obviously not 8 nights but a shorter vacation). We really did not have a single complaint about the resort.
