We are still tossing around ideas for our honeymoon. Departing March 30th and returning April 6th 2014. Honestly, I’m a little overwhelmed by all of the options. We have heard bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Antigua, etc. but I’m still unsure.
We are very adventurous and fiancé loves to dive and deep sea fish. I love all these thing’s but also crave a little romance and relaxation. We do not want to go to Mexico and would love an island feel. Hopefully adult only.
So I would love to know where did you go and what activities did they offer? Would you recommend this as a honeymoon? What made it special?

We are going here: http://www.excellence-resorts.com/caribbean-and-mexico-destinations/excellence-punta-cana
But not til January! We are going off the recommendation of my sister’s friend, who loved it.
Have you considered the Galapagos? I had friends who went there for their honeymoon and loved it. I am not sure in March/April are the ideal months to go. You may need to delay your honeymoon if you wanted to go there, but I am not sure.

I have heard AMAZING things about the Couples resorts. Specifically Swept Away….I can’t wait to try them for myself. They are in Jamaica and just opened one in Barbados.

@jenm2be: I’m flattered that Antigua is an option!!
When it comes to deep sea fishing and scuba diving etc. Antigua is the place for that! It is the isle of 365 beaches!
You can always take a nice lil boat trip to one of the tons of untouched islands around Antigua. If you like Adults-only, all-inclusive resorts you can check out the Sandals, Galley Bay etc.
My SO has a boat and it is always nice to be laying on a beach all alone on a tiny island.

Antigua is actually my number one pick! It seems like it has so much to offer. I’ve also checked into Punta Cana with Excellence resort and it seems great as well.

@tiff-tiff-tiff: that’s exactly what I have in mind! We live on the coast and that’s our summer time go to on the weekends. Boat days are the absolute best!

We’re going to Excellence Playa Mujeres, but since you don’t want to do Mexico, that’s probably not right for you! We just think it looks amazing, the reviews are all raves and we loved the two story rooftop terrace suites that have private rooftops with a pool and lounge bed all to yourselves – perfect for newlyweds! They have a lazy river that wraps around the whole resort and a bunch of pools and restaurants and it just looks so relaxing and luxurious.
We’re staying for 10 nights so we’re doing a few excursions as well: visiting the Mayan ruins and swimming in a cenote, ziplining, swimming and playing with dolphins and sea lions, etc.
I can’t wait!

Too bad you are a no go on Mexico cause Cabo has the best deep sea fishing around!

@esk716: Just got back from our honeymoon there on Monday, it was so amazing! We had a rooftop terrace room also, you will have an amazong time!
OP: If the resort in punta Cana is anything like the excellence resort in Mexico it would be a great choice. We had amazing service and super friendly staff on our trip, I think the excellence brand are amazing resorts!

@esk716: we just want something a little more than Mexico! Excellence in Punta Cana has all of those perks as well but a little more interesting fishing spots for fiancé.
Plus, I’ve heard far too many horror stories about Mexico and I know anywhere we choose comes with risks but Mexico just scares me.

DH and I honeymooned in March at Sandals La Toc in St. Lucia.
It was absolutely gorgeous, the staff was amazing, food was so yummy, and we had a blast. I would go back in a heartbeat.

We went to Jamaica and stayed at the Grand Bahia Principle. It was gorgeous, great pool, right on the beach, very friendly staff. While in Jamaica we climbed a waterfall, swam with dolphins, went mountain biking, and went for a night swim in a lagoon with bioluminescent plankton (my personal favorite part of the trip!) We were able to book all of the excursions through the hotel. The resort had buffets for most meals, but the stay also included a couple of meals at our choice of the different restauraunts they had. The food was all around good 🙂

@jenm2be: Okay, well hopefully your honeymoon is “more” than what we’re getting! Have fun and be safe! 🙂

I am glad to see so many good reviews of Excellence resorts. We splurged for the VIP Swim up Suite and I am *so* excited!!
OP, if you’re looking for an all-inclusive, even in Mexico, you won’t be in danger. Mexico has dangerous spots but if you stay on resort properties you will be perfectly safe! It still might not be for you, but you will be okay on a resort.

I’ve been to Excellence Punta Cana and it is awesome! I have several friends who went there for honeymoons on my recommendation and they loved it!
