Even before we were engaged we wanted to HM in Bermuda. Our original plan was to get married there but those plans fell through so we decided to honeymoon there instead. Well, in theory it sounds great but on paper it seems pretty expensive. We would be cruising there and taking into consideration the cruise fare, spending money (we like to drink) and everything else, we’re looking at around $4K ($4K for 5 days seems like a heck of a lot to me!). I’ve noticed so many awesome resorts posted on here so it’s really got me thinking about changing our plans. The cruise would be nice but we’ll only get 2 days in Bermuda and the rest of the time we’ll be on the ship. I think I would like to have more of a relaxing honeymoon at an all inclusive resort.
So, can anyone suggest some nice all inclusive resorts for us to look into that won’t really break the bank? We’re pretty open to location though, we would like to go somewhere tropical (we’re looking at end of October/early November). The only places we’re not really interested in are Hawaii and Jamaica.
Also, if you could post pics of your suggestions that would be fantastic!
ETA: We’re not terribly active (ok, not really active at all) so we’re not looking for tons of activities to do. We would ideally like somewhere private and relatively safe so we’re not afraid to leave the resort.
ETA (again): I should also add that we would much prefer it be an adults or couples only resort.

@UpstateCait: I know FMIL stayed at Occidental in Mexico and just loved it. If you aren’t interested in Mexico they seem to have hotels everywhere in that area. http://en.occidentalhotels.com/occidental/
They sorta have an eco-tourist feel to themselves. Also I know it is clean and safe because FMIL actually had OCD. So does FSFIL. Like baaaaad.

May I ask why not Jamaica? There are so many all inclusives there! Ive heard that St. Lucia is beautiful and Ive heard good things about Excellence Playa Mujeres as well Excellence Punta Cana (in Dominican Republic)

Living Social is having a great deal…. I’m sure there are restrictions, but when I saw “unlimited massages” I was like….maybe we can swing this 😉

@PitBulLover: Almost every couple we know who has gotten married in the last 3 years has HM’ed there. We’d just like to go somewhere a little different.

@UpstateCait:ahh i see! Well I have heard great things about St. Lucia but I think it might be more expensive than other places

i’ve never been to st. lucia but my sister honeymooned there and said the resort was really nice but it was crap if you left the resort. i think it was a sandals.
what about key west? i dont know about their all inclusives but its a beautiful place and great for going into town. Bahamas, though not my favorite spot in comparisson to other places i have been but it was another place i felt comfortable leaving the resort.
so sad you dont want to go to jamaica – its beautiful and i think exactly what you are looking for – wont break the bank..we went to a couples resort and they are great because its all inclusive – excursions included so if one day you felt like snorkleing or something its free. plus great spa’s. the resorts are really spread out (at least swept away) and you stay in little bungalows. its really cute and very relaxing 🙂 ok im going to try and stop convincing you haha.
what about PR? you dont even need a passport! and i hear the beaches are beautiful.
Cruises are great too! jsut not something i would recommend for a honeymoon – they are tons of fun but you are always on the go and on a schedule. dinner at this time. have to be on and off the boat at certain times…i think you would enjoy yourself more staying at a resort for a week.

@UpstateCait: DH and I honeymooned at Sandals Royal Bahamian and had an amazing experience. We were there for 7 nights, in a butler suite for about $500’ish. We REALLY wanted to go to a Sandals that had the private plunge pool, but couldn’t afford it. The cool thing about where our room was ( in the Villas in the gardens of the resort) there were small pools that the rest of the resort didn’t know about. One day, we had one of the pool all to ourselves, so we felt like we got our own private pool, without paying the extra $4k. lol
This resort has a private island, which is where we spent most of our time. WOW! Talk about gorgeous, beautiful, amazing, etc. I will say one bad thing that turned/good. Our first few days there, the weather was not great due to a hurricane, but we still had a blast, which says alot about the resort and their ability to keep guests happy/entertained even under not so great circumstances!
I only have one pic I took on this trip, and the other two are from the website. I can only speak for our room/experience, but the photos on the website were VERY accurate.

@PitBulLover & @totheislnds: Ok, maybe we can add Jamaica to the list. I just looked at Couples and it looks incredible (and affordable). Which resort would you suggest?

Jamaica really is a beautiful country. The people are so incredible there as well. We stayed at Couples Sans Souci and while it was beautiful – I would recommend staying in Negril. Negril has the better white sand beaches that you think of when you think of a tropical island. There is also more going on on that side of the island. Ive heard Couples Swept Away is one of the best ones. If you can afford Sandals Negril I would stay there instead. I think its just a little higher caliber of resort.

For an all inclusive that is adults only, the Valentin Imperial Maya is amazing. The food is fantastic, the rooms are beautiful. Here is the link: http://www.valentinmaya.com/
The Bahia Principe in the Riviera Maya is also beautiful, probably one of my favorites. It’s not adults only, but it’s so huge you can escape to a pool where there aren’t any children. Here on tripadvisor you can check out reviews and photos: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g499445-d247628-Reviews-Gran_Bahia_Principe_Akumal-Akumal_Yucatan_Peninsula.html
Another great resort is the Gran Palladium in the Riviera Maya as well as in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. I would go to Mexico before Dominican again, though. PM me if you want more info on that..and our experience. What a beautiful resort though! Great food, beautiful long beach..amazing. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g499445-d596646-Reviews-Grand_Palladium_Riviera_Resort_Spa-Akumal_Yucatan_Peninsula.html
Another one is the Barcelo in the Riviera Maya. It’s a huge resort with 4 or 5 complexes within I believe. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g153510-d254937-Reviews-Barcelo_Maya_Beach-Puerto_Aventuras_Yucatan_Peninsula.html
The only resort that I absolutely cannot recommend is the Riu Tequila, Riu Playacar, and Riu Palace in the Riviera Maya. They used to be really great, but we recently went back to two of them and they were pretty terrible. The food was plain american food every single day for lunch. They are very small, and not kept up as well as the others.
Enjoy your trip!

I’m going to chime in with Pitbulllover. While we didn’t go to a Couples, I researched them like crazy for months. Seems like a great choice! We actually booked with Couples Swept Away and then had to cancel.

I’m really interested in going somewhere amazing and afforable.
Jamaica isn’t an option becuase we just went there on a cruise last year. Any suggestions? I hear the food in Punta Cana sucks. Food is muy importante!

We’re doing Couples Negril at the end of September and I am stoked. A ton of people go there for a reason!
