Sandals Grande Antigua in March. Best vacation of my life, I wouldn't change a thing!! We didn't have to worry about going to the ATM or carrying around a wallet in a place we didn't know, we swam up to bars, we swam in the ocean, we had a stocked bar, we had a couple's massage, we had a four poster bed... It was magical.
we went to couples swept away in negril jamaica! i would HIGHLY recommend it! i can't say enough good things about the resort. the people are so friendly, the food is delicious, its not some big highrise, instead its a bunch of little buildings scattered across 17 acres with probably 4 bungalows in each building. it was by far the best vacation i have ever been on! we cant wait to go back. We went in february and it was perfect! i know of someone else who went in October and enjoyed it as well. Seems to have really great weather all year long.
check it out : http://couples.com/swept-away/
Pic from our balcony:
We went to Couples San Souci in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Loved it.
We went to Couples San Souci in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Loved it.
@totheislnds: I want to go to that one too!!!!
I leave for the Westin Playa Conchal, Costa Rica in just over 2 weeks for our honeymoon!!! It is all inclusive and looks fabulous, but I obviously don't know first hand just yet. I'll give an update after we get back in mid Jaunary!
hisgoosiegirl: I've heard great things about all the couples resorts! Jamaica is amazing in itself but it really helps to get a great resort too and everyone i've talked to who has stayed at any of the 4 couples resorts had great things to say.
We went to Playacar Palace in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. It was awesome. And in September, it was $2500 for the both of us, at all inclusive, including airfare.
We just went for a regular vacation, but chose Secrets Silversands in Riviera Maya. We paid $750 each for 7 days including airfare. That was crazy to me. I felt like we were stealing from them. Adults-only, all-inclusive, gorgeous.
Try www.travelbyjen.com for some deals - that's where we found ours :)
We've been to a lot of AIs in Mexico. Our honeymoon will be at Secrets Maroma Beach. We have also stayed at Marival and Riu Palace Pacifico in P.V. and Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita in Riviera Maya. I would recommend them all.
totheislnds: (not letting me link your name) we went back and forth and back and forth between CSS and CSA. CSS was a bit cheaper and seemed smaller/more secluded so we went with that. But we heard good things about all of them from other people there and would love to go to both Negril ones.
Also want to get to St. Lucia someday!
We went to The Royal in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and had the best trip ever. Highly recommend. Went in late May-early June.
For our HM we went to Sandals Grande Antigua and it was beautiful!! It is sooo romantic and food was amazing!! We would go back in a heart beat!! We went in late Sept.
However, we have also been to Rui Palace Aruba and it is gorgeous as well! Not as romantic as Antigua though but has lots of positives as well! We went in mid April and loved it!
We went to Bolongo Bay in St. Thomas. Loved it! It's not fancy, but laid back which is what we wanted. If you want fancy, it isn't the place for you, but if you want comfy, less people, all rooms right on the beach, amazing food, drinks and the best bar in all of St. Thomas, it is amazing! Gosh, that sounds like a commerical. Oops. lol
Edit: The snorkeling right from the beach was fantastic! We did that for hours every day.
This is a great thread, because we are definitely wanting to do all inclusive as well, and I love hearing opinions from people I trust :)
We went to Sandals Royal Bahamian and loved it. We're currently planning another trip and want to go to another Sandals. We've considered Antigua and St. Lucia, but I can't help but think of the fabulous time we had in the Bahamas.
I haven't had my honeymoon yet, but I booked a room at the Sandals La Toc in St. Lucia. I'm super excited!
I've been AI in Turkey, Cuba, the Dom Rep (Punta Cana), and Mexico (Cancun/Riviera Maya, 3 times). Mexico wins hands-down IMPO: loads of adult's only resorts, rooms are usually equipped to a high standard, most decent ones offer complimentary 24 hour room service, unlimited a la carte dining with no reservations, etc. We've stayed at the Excellence Riviera Cancun; the Valentin Imperial Maya; and the Royal Playa del Carmen.
Jamaica has a few AIs, but not the same range as Mexico. Likewise other islands such as Antigua, St Lucia, etc.
We find our money goes much further in Mexico than elsewhere.
We went to Couples Sans Souci in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and loved it!

@julies1949: Good point! When is hurricane season? August-December-ish? Does it depend where you go?
@eliwhit: @totheislnds: Beautiful pictures!
This thread has been so helpful, thanks ladies!
@redheadem: Hurricane season is June through Novemeber. The further south you go, the better chance you have of not being affected.
@Bichon Frise: Good to know; we'll definitely have to research the weather before deciding where to go.
One thing I'd say re hurricane season is to look more at the peak months, eg in Mexico the season technically runs right from May to November, but the peak month is August; the chances of being hit by a hurricane in say June are extremely low (June is our favourite month to go as it's very hot, and prices are good). Similarly, I've been to Cuba twice in July/August as again, though it's technically hurricane season, most hurricanes hit Cuba in September.
@barbie86: Where do you think would the best place to go in mid September?
We went to Couples Negril and had THE BEST TIME! We went in September, which is Hurricane season for Jamaica. However, the locals and our research told us that hurricanes don't typically hit that side of the island (Negril). They do have tropical storms at times and it did rain while we were there but it was the most beautiful rain and it didn't mess with our honeymoon at all. I would go back in a second!
Hurray for All Inclusives!! Ours included absolutely everything.
we went to COSTA RICA because you can be in a tropical setitng and not have to worry about hurricanes. They never get them.
Enjoy!
@KristenGotMarried:That is a freaking amazing deal, go you guys!
I had an all-inclusive honeymoon to...Disney World! I loved it, just what I had always wanted =) We paid just under 3k and that included 3 sit down meals per day (appetizer, main course, and dessert), a room at a deluxe resort with a balcony that had an amazing fireworks view, tickets with access to all parks, their huge virtual reality gaming center, and awesome water parks. They also have a more expensive package that includes Cirque du Soleil, a fireworks cruise, tours, etc.
We are going to St. Lucia. It's two different resorts, all inclusive. Check out the Ladera website, it's under specials. The rooms are amazing!
I've been to tons of all inclusives. Honestly, within the same class 5*s they are all pretty much the same. They all have mostly the same food (buffets, snack bar and grill, theme restaurants), the same activities (a catamaran trip, snorkelling, zip lining etc), a nice beach.
Don't stress too much about where you pick. No matter where you go you will like it. It's kind of like where you went to University. Almost everyone I know loved their school, had so many great memories, met loads of great people. But I don't think one is really better then the other.
@andielovesj: It's just stressful because there are so many options! I have no idea where to start other than opening Google maps, picking a country that looks like it will be warm, and typing it into Expedia. Ugh. I'm sure we'll have fun no matter where we go, but I want to make sure that the all-inclusive is truly all-inclusive (I've seen some places that skimp on the drinks and meals!) and that there are good excursions to take. These suggestions are good though.
Thanks for this thread. Been looking at all-inclusives as well. Anyone been to Punta Cana? It frustrates me because the resorts I can afford, its the dang plane ride to get there that is outrageous. Where did you book your honeymoon through?
@redheadem: I usually start by either 1) picking a country or 2) looking at what is cheap at the time I want to go. From there some things I look for are a) beach front (no ride to the beach) b) International Brand liquor c) Some food option open 24 hours.
At the end you will love it no matter where you pick.
@LovebirdsSC: I have been to PC in DR. I had a good time. Food was actually really great!
Sooo we're thinking about going to the west coast of Costa Rica because it won't be hurricane season there in October. There's an all-inclusive Hilton that has gret reviews! FI found out that there are lots of nature excursions around there too.
We went on our mini-moon to the Sandals in Jamaica, Whitehouse. It was very nice.
Also, we like to go to ClubMed when we go on vacation.

My FI and I are either going to go right after the wedding in early October, or, if he goes to grad school, at the end of December 2012-early January 2013. We are interested in looking into all-inclusive options. What experiences did you have with an all-inclusive honeymoon? Where and when did you go?
