For some reason, I just wanted a post for the ladies who were still trudging along in school. :)
What are you all taking this semester?
I'm taking 5 classes, 3 of which are studios.
Photography 1 (blurg, required, don't want to take)
Printmaking 2 (really more like printmaking 03408234. I'll have free reign to do whatever I want, just have to have enough for a show at the end of the semester. I'm really, really excited).
Senior Studio (Part 1 of 2, for my senior show, I'll be doing a series of giant paintings. Think, 6'x6' :p I'm also building all the canvases, which is exciting and fun).
Problem Solving (Stupid core class that everybody has to take. Very blah blah and dumb).
German 3 (My fiance is German, so, well, that one explains itself)
I'm taking four: Core Mathmatic (essentially college algebra), Intro to Ethics, The Science of Human Nutrion, and The Art of the Theatre.
5 classes
- Assessing Students with Disabilites
- Students with Emotional & Behavioral Disorders
- Adaptive/Assistive Technology
- Issues & Strategies in Low-Incidence Disabilities
- Field Experiences (I'll be working in a school with special needs students twice a week for the full school day)
It's going to be a pretty overwhelming semester but I'm definitely looking forward to it!
Your classes sound more fun....
I'm taking Human Factors in Engineering and Manufacturing Process Engineering.
Basically, the psychology of making and designing products that people find easy to use and want to use and the study of how forces on materials affects things like grain structures and strength. The latter is really a joke--being a materials engineer, I'm re-learning everything I learned on the job. Makes it hard to pay attention basically.
Oooh, school! I start my master's program next Tuesday. Really nervous. I'm taking:
Intro Stats and Measurement in Education (blerg, scary, I think)
Individual Counseling: Theory and Applications
Career Development: Theory, Skills, and Counseling Applications
Counseling Pre-Practicum
AAAAH Human Factors!
I have a BS in Psych already, so I've done so much of that. I really like the human-computer interaction stuff. It's really helpful for designing UIs and such. :p
I'm cramming 4 years of art school into 2. I went to all serious school first, finished, but now get to go and do fun stuff. I always thought I had to be an engineer because my father has a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (and an MBA), and my mom has a Ph.D. in Math. I went to MIT because I thought I had to do something like them.
I have delightfully supportive parents who put up with me going to school... again. :p
@jduck - I start my Master's program tomorrow and I am also taking an Education Measurement & Statistics class - bleck.. i've already taken two of these in my undergrad - one for when I thought I wanted to be a psych. major, and one for when I got my bachelor's in communication studies! So, yes, I'll be re-learning statistics again - yucky!
I'm also taking a Studies in Curriculum & Instruction class.
So, only 2 classes to begin my Master's in Education program! woo hoo!
I'm a junior at Florida State University and my schedule is:
Middle Eastern Economics
Islam in the Modern World
Spanish 4
Arabic 1
International Conflict Resolution
I'm a little worried about Arabic...the teacher says I have bad handwriting
lol. Plus the sounds are so weird to make!
I'm taking 2 classes (6 hours), but they're both on-line. Kind of going backwards since I've got 3 graduate degrees already . . . I'm taking undergraduate classes in Digital Imaging (Photoshop) and Intro to Computer Graphics (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop).
Ok, I'll admit that I was somewhat drawn in by all the talented brides who know how to use Adobe Creative Suite!
Can you tell I love being a student? And I got FI to join me too!
University of Maryland senior American Studies/media studies major, graduating in Dec, (GO TERPS!)
I'm taking:
<span style="font-family: arial, helvetica;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica;">AMST429D Perspectives on Popular Culture: Children and the Media
<span style="font-family: arial,helvetica;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica;">AMST429E Perspectives on Popular Culture: Television Situation Comedy
<span style="font-family: arial,helvetica;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica;">AMST450 Seminar in American Studies
<span style="font-family: arial,helvetica;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica;">JOUR451 Advertising and Society
<span style="font-family: arial, helvetica;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica;">can't wait to be done done done! PS anyone in the DC area need an intern??
Arabic sounds really fun, actually, or at least the letters part.
Hooray for CS4! Sounds like you have a fun semester. :)
I'm sorry for that last messy post, I got lazy and copy/pasted from my schedule! Here it is
American studies 429D-children and the media
American studies 429E-television and situaiton comedy
American Studies 450-seminar in American studies
Journalism 451- advertising and society
I'm an American Studies/media studies major at the University of Maryland...graduating in Dec (finally!)
ps-any DC area bees need an intern?
Woo, home stretch for you! I'm graduating in May. It simultaneously seems so far away and so close!
Does Grad School count?
This semester shouldn't be too bad since its the last time I'm going to be taking 2 classes while working full time. I'm taking ESOL for Elementary Students and Second Language Acquisition.
I'm taking seven courses. Undergrad FTW! Several of them will probably be boring...I'm graduating in May, and since a little birdie told me I would be getting married around that time as well, I'm piling on the courses this semester. The only mentionable ones are Young Adult Literature, Teaching & Tutoring Writing, and Literature & Film. Should be fun! I go back tomorrow morning! :D
Grad school does count. :)
Seven classes, good lawd! Are you guys on the quarter system or something?
@fiftyfootbride...i know, right? its a little bittersweet too. so excited to be finishing up, and so terrified i wont be able to land a job in this economy!
I am finishing my Bachelor's of Journalism this year, so this is my second to last semester. I'm taking 5 classes, all of which are 3 hour courses:
- Intro to Web Development, an elective that I am really hating because there is so much troubleshooting and you have to teach yourself basically, since its online.
- Convergence Producing and Editing, a required class for my concentration, a lot of work - we are project managers for reporting students, as well as working in two different newsrooms. I'm working at Newsy.com and KOMU.com.
- Intermediate Writing, a magazine writing class that I really want to love, but hate all the work I have to do for it! This is a required class.
- Women & the Media, a really cool feminist-leaning class that looks at how women are portrayed in the media, a great journalism elective.
- Contemporary Legends & Film, an anthropology/film class about urban legends, another elective.
Journalism majors have to take a lot of electives because we are supposed to be "well rounded", so I am definitely taking some interesting classes, though I have a lot of work to do! I should be doing it now!
Nutrition, Anatomy, and Physiology... fun, fun, and more fun!
I know!
For me it's also kind of stressfull, because I'm getting married in June, plus right now I really need to start doing grad school apps and stuff. Going to grad school helps out the 'getting a job' part-- well, definitely with procrastination!!
Wednesday we have opening convocation. I have to walk in a line in my cap and gown. That makes me so nervous for some reason. lol
Just got back from my first class of the semester. I'm only taking 2 classes since we're getting married in less than 2 months (!!) which are Communicating in Business and Business and Data Communications. Can anyone tell I'm a Business major? And only 3 classes left til I graduate. WOOOHOOOO!
@fiftyfoot: Nope, traditional semester system. I'm just a glutton for punishment! "Plan a baby shower? Lead the choir? Plan my own wedding? Run the youth group? Relandscape the backyard? Write a novel? Make a quilt? Learn how to cook? Start working out? Take 19 credit hours worth of classes? Make and maintain a website? All right now at this very moment? ...OK!"
lolol. You have the wedding-pcp-brain. I get that on and off. :p
Major good luck to you, lady!
just wanted to point out that it's kind of nice that when you graduate they tell you what you have to wear (cap and gown)...it's nice to take a break from decision making in the midst of wedding planning. just show up and walk :)
I am graduting with a bachelors in sociology this upcoming december! This semester i have my last 4 classes which are:
Into to gerontology
Sociology of health and illness
Sociology of mental health
Gender and Society
Cant wait to be done and marry the man of my dreams!! :)
Going part time for the rest of the year to finish up my BA in Media and Communication Studies (Finally!)
Here's what I'm taking:
History and Theory in Mass Communication
Psychology of Motivation
Theories of Communication and Technology
Internship Seminar (already did the internship this summer)
Should be a good semester. Classes start in the morning, and I'm just hoping that I don't have anything major due the week of my honeymoon. When we chose the dates, I was supposed to have graduated. But I had to take a semester off, and now I'm getting married in the middle of a semester. Not great, but not terrible so far.
ah, I wish I could take a fun design or photography class like some of you!
I just started graduate school. I'm taking two classes this semester: Mass Transfer, and Modeling & Analysis of Chemical Engineering Systems. Any other chemical engineers out there?!
We'll see how fun my classes are at the end of the semester. I'll be living in the art building, practically.
Ahhh, grad school. I'm working on my Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology...
This semester, I teach two classes of recitation of Introductory Psychology...
In addition, I am taking Research Methods (at the grad school level...eeeek)
Personality Processes
Survey of Organizational Psychology
I have probably at least 200 pages of reading to do each week...plus lesson plans, grading quizzes/essays from my students...oh yeah...and planning a wedding????
I'm in the third year of a 4 year Doctor of Audiology program (so, hearing and balance).
I'm taking:
PhD Seminar in Cochlear Implants
Amplification II
Clinical Supervision
Professional Seminar
Clinical Procedures Lab
and 3 credits of clinical practicum.
@CRoD, eh, do I count? I have a bachelors in Chemistry (straight up) and i'm a materials engineer. I get my fill of systems and the like
I get a little green inside seeing everybody's interesting classes while I was stuck with things like 3D Calculus Systems and Synthesis of Organic Polymers as a senior =(
I too envy the photography and courses that require time in the art building. My degrees are in business and I'm currently working on a PhD in the field of Marketing. I have a light course load this semsester with a heavy focus on research. I am also teaching a Country Manager simulation where the students participate in an online simulation to sell toothpaste in Latin America which is pretty fun in a competitive way.
@fiftyfootbride, My Fiance is also German! I wish I would have know that during my undergrad so I could have prepared with some Germany classes ;)
@slicey- I know! I neded 2 language courses, but I'm taking all 4 of the German classes that are offered. I already knew some German before I met him, and have learned a lot via him, but I wanted to make sure my grammar didn't blow. :p Apparently this class is going to be German lit. Hooray for German fiances! Where is yours from? Jean-Pierre is from Waldacker, which is near Frankfurt am Main.
I barely managed to get two classes this semester thanks to the budget cutbacks:
1) Liquid Waste Management and Technology (basically Wastewater Treatment)
2) Hazardous Waste Management
I've got two more classes to go after this and hopefully I'll get my M.S. two weeks before our wedding next summer.
1) Survey of Health Care Delivery & I'm on the waiting list for 2) Human Relations in Business :P With all my wedding stuff, I forgot to register right away and now I've been wait listed!
<span style="font-size: 7.5pt; color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">I envy all of you ladies! I graduated in the spring with a BA in Political Science (concentration in Political Philosophy) and minored in Russian history.
<span style="font-size: 7.5pt; color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">I would give anything (besides my FI) to be back in school right now. But sadly the master’s degree in International Studies will have to wait 2-3 years… <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
I just switched schools, so I'm having to retake some early requisite classes that didn't quite transfer - Art and History. Easy peasy! :) Worked out well, considering the whole wedding planning in the middle of the semester thing! :)
@fiftyfootbride, so grad school counts? i'm in! haha. i'm actually on the quarter systerm so i've been in school all year long, but this quarter is almost over [in 3 weeks...and i still haven't started on my term project...just like undergrad!] but next quarter i'll be taking managerial accounting and marketing research!
OOOh, fiftyfootbride, another fellow printmaker!!!!!
I majored in fine arts in college (graduated 3 yrs ago). My love was printmaking :)
Unfortunately, I haven't practiced art since I graduated...I just don't have the funds to be an artist or get any supplies (which in printmaking can be pretty expensive), so I'm just hoping to get into museum or gallery work ...haven't had luck so far.
If I had money, I would love to just do printmaking again...I loved etching, linocuts, and engravings the most !
@luli29- my favorite is aquatint! yay yay yay yay for printers!
my official major is art and design, concentration in painting and drawing, but i pretty much do as much of everything... besides ceramics... as i can. :p
for some reason i have no pictures of my prints on this computer, but here is one that i loved doing. it's a bad wipe, and looks worse because of a poopy cell-phone picture. printed in graphite. the later prints from that plate were mostly black or sepia. <3 printmaking. line etched (actually printed those as well), then aquatint. i wish i had better pictures. lol
needless to say, i'm really excited about playing again in the studio.
