So my Wedding is finally over…Thank God, and in time I will write additional blogs to discuss the before the wedding and during the wedding “fun” but for now I need some advice and this site has been one that I have turned to for my many unanswered wedding questions:
My Reception Venue totally screwed me and I am unsure what to do….
I had a contract in place that had guaranteed for 330 adults and 20 children and we knew that we were going to have less than that many guests, 250 to be exact. We thought we would be able to change the amount but according the owner even though we were giving more than a month’s notice it didnt matter *lessen learned* none the less, we decided okay well we will have more food and maybe some to take home YUM! We also had paid 6000 for an open bar in which we were assured that would be the cost and we would not have to play any additonal. Additional things we had but that werent on the contract was that they would cut and serve my wedding cake, That the buffet would be set up in our initial cocktail hour room, as I had paid for a backdrop to take family photos and coffee and tea be served during dessert *that may be on contract*
This is what happened. We were running late about 2 hours for the start of the actual reception, cocktail hour was going on and we were still decorating the hall. We had begun the wedding and at around 9pm they shut down my bar and proceeded to tell my guest that we reached our 6000 budget, they were ringing in the drinks at club prices and apparently serving everyone double shots!!! It took my guests over 30 minutes to get a drink because the bartenders apparently were also helping the cook and serving the buffet food to my guests. There was also a guy with a clipboard marking down what was ordered and more than one of my guests said he would mark two lines so when the end of the night came they said we doubled our budget!!!!
Nonetheless, about 57 of my guests didnt get to eat, they didnt get to make enough food!!!! and then my friends and family and myself got yelled at from the chef when we went back to ask what was going on with the food. We called the owner to come and fix all of this and he refused saying he had a manager for that.
At around midnite some food from the cocktail hour came out and some of the guests had left.
We spoke to the owner the next day and he initially offered 500 and then wrote a check for 1000. We have not cashed this check but in the advice of our vendors we went ahead and reached out to some lawyers.
We also let the owner know we spoke to lawyers and now he is being rude telling me to direct all of our comments to his lawyer.
What would you bees do in this situation? I am in talk with another lawyer so take the legal route or would you take the 1000 and run?
