Once you get that lovely marriage certificate you get the joy of going to all these wonderful offices to change your name! OH JOY! lol What offices or places (if any) am I missing from my list. Social Security, DMV, Bank, Doctor’s officies, passport, bills, and health insurance. Anything else?

eecuadrado: I think you got everything! I would say deeds or anything else you owned prior to being married as well.

eecuadrado: If you’re employed you’ll need to change your name with HR at work before changing it with your medical/dental insurance. I just had that issue with mine yesterday.

eecuadrado: Something I foud out recently (and I guess it depends where you live)- the credit bureau! I changed my name on my bank account and current visa and all my past credit (from Nov 2013 and before) is under my maiden name! It wasn’t an issue, I just had to provide my visa number to my mortgage broker! But I never would have thought to do it!

eecuadrado: If you rent your home, you’ll probably want to get your name changed on your lease!

401 Ks (if you have them, and make him your beneficiary)
email (if your current one has your maiden name)

This is my list:
Provincial health care card (Canadian)
Canada Revenue Agency (taxes)
Banks, credit cards and investments
Car insurance and registration
Doctor, dentist, vet, pharmacy, etc
Club memberships like Costco and the library
I think I’ll just leave my passport and Nexus as is until it expires… and just remember to book flights in my maiden name.

Credit cards if you have them, any other insurance (renter’s, homeowner’s, auto, etc), a retirement plan if you have it, any other assets (I have a mutual fund from before I was married), alumni associations (not required but helpful). I started a new PayPal account with my married name. I also changed my Delta Skymiles account and my roadside assistance program. Do you have a car title or anything in your name? When you go to the DMV to update there, you should be able to re-register to vote as well.

You may also want to add your retirement accounts and your alumni associations at the schools you have attended.

Car titles/registration? Benefit information, I think those are the only two “extras” I have on my list that you don’t, other than my workplace info/email.
