FutureDrAtkins:  I actually didn’t change my name officially on our house deed or car titles, call me lazy, but so far it’s been okay – nobody’s given me grief for it yet.  I sign everything with my maiden-married names so I think people are okay with it.

I think with drivers license, car titles and house deeds n such it was under 100, maybe around 50. With the exception of the passport which will be 140 or so. To update that, I have to just reapply as if mine had expired and will owe full renewal fees. I have no motivation to do that bec frankly I think it’s horseshit.

I didn’t bother changing anything except for IDs.  Why bother and spend money when it doesn’t matter.  Licence is $25 and passport was free for me since I’d renewed it less than a year earlier.

The only thing I had to pay for was a new license, I think that was around $25.  I never changed my name on our house or utilities because frankly I don’t care and I doubt they care as long as they get paid. Come to think if it, I haven’t changed my credit card either.

Only had to pay for my marriage certificate so far. Will have to pay for my new passport too. That’s it I think.

I don’t recall having to pay at social security.  I paid for a new license ($25ish), and for my passport.  That was it.

FutureDrAtkins:  I got 3 copies of my marriage certificate, I think they were $10 each? Other than that the only costs for me was my drivers license ($10?) and my passport, which had to be expedited so it was around $200?

I paid for a new license And that was all… Note sure why you would have to pay at the SS office? Our cars are being paid off so no change there except with my bank, and we rent so no change there either. I haven’t made it around to my passport yet, but I have to pay full price either way since I’ve had it for 5+ years…

FutureDrAtkins:  I havne’t heard about that, but couldn’t you do a correction deed? We do those all the time for ppl mostly for misspellings and incorrect or incomplete legal descriptions. Now that I think about it though they are mostly for ppl that already fully own the property… We have done Quit Claim Deeds but that’s totally different..

Commenting to follow since I get married in 17 days (:

However, when I got our marriage license the women asked if I would be changing my name, I said yes and she said when we bring back the license after the wedding they will change my license, SIN and (I think) my medicare card all for free. I also don’t think there is a charge to change my name on my debit/credit cards, leases or anything else.

Changing your name at SS should be free. It was for me…? I have only changed stuff at work (teacher) and health insurance. No one else cares.

My colleage traveled with her old passport and she had been married w/ name change for 5 years!  As long as you book the trip in the name that appears on the passport you will never have to change it.
