I am! Is anyone else?
Any acne product with salicylic acid causes extreme redness, peeling, and tenderness on my skin. Took me YEARS to figure it out. I thought it was part of my acne for most of my life, then I used a product on my scalp that had it in it, and had the same reaction. I’ve been using a cleanser for regular skin (ie, not medicated for acne treatment) since I found out and I had virtually no redness anymore.
Given the prevalence of salicylic acid in OTC acne creams, washes, makeups, and moisturizers, I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience.
For the record, I’m only allergic to topical use, enteral is prefectly ok with my body.

I am sensitive to acne products if I use too many of them but the regular applications don’t bother my skin much unless I’m already irritated from cold or something.

I’m sensitive to it, but not allergic. I am allergic to the active ingredient in Proactiv however, which took me a while to figure out! It was so frustrating before I fugured it out, I feel your pain!

With all the problems I have had while growing up, I’m sure I’m allergic to it! It has taken me over 10 years to figure out the perfect cleanser (and make up) for my face. I only use cetaphil to wash my face now and I only use Origins make up (completely organic, no irritating fragrance, etc.)

I’ve been using Proactiv for years and it is the only topical acne medication that has ever worked for me. I have no problem with the benzoyl peroxide in it, but benzoyl peroxide is a mild bleach and that means I can’t use it on my back because it will bleach my clothes. So I bought a salicylic acid body scrub, and after a week of using that stuff my skin just below my neck feels really tender, and the tag from my shirt just itches the heck out of it. Bummer. 🙁
