I cannot believe I am posting this, but here it goes…. might be Too Much Information….
I saw a lot of BC talk on the Bee about different methods and I was wondering… is anyone elce allergic to spermicide?
I found out I was two ago after buying a pack of condoms(trogan) with spermicide on it and let me tell you ladies…NOT a good time. I went to the planned parenthood center ( i was a sophmore in college at the time and did not want my parents to know…. no clue about Hippa laws then…) and asked if this was a common thing and the Dr. I saw said yes.
- I did some reaserch and this is what I found… that the most common allergen is a chemical called nonoxinol-9 which is the most common, octoxynol, and benzalkonium chloride are also shown to be not so good for the lady parts.
Any other bees Allergic to this stuff?

Not allergic buy sensitive to them. Before Darling Husband got his vasectomy, if we used spermicides or condomes with spermicides two times in a row then it would be uncomfortable to say the least. Just glad we don’t have to worry about that anymore;)

I’m not allergic to nonoxynol-9, but it irritates my skin a lot. Also, nonoxynol-9 can make microscopic tears in the skin as well. Further, if people buy condoms specifically WITH nonoxynol-9 for its spermicidal properties, they are better off using a separate spermicide b/c there really isn’t a whole lot typically left on a condom when it’s taken out of the package. As you already know from your doctor, allergies (and sensitivities) to nonoxynol-9 are becoming more and more common.

Yup, was totally a one time thing with FI and then we donated the rest of the pack to my friend who had frequent ” sleep overs”. Poor Fiance felt so bad because somewhere in his head he had made the connection that HE was at fault for this adventure….
I figured I would post since there was a lot of BC talk in the hive tonight, and spermicide was mentioned in a few posts.

I used to use spermicidal KY, which is the Nonoxynal 9 and had adverse reactions to it. Irritation, itchiness, redness, and pain with sex. Not fun at all. We don;t use the condoms with spermicidals due to that reason.
