I have suffered terribly from allergies for as long as I can remember. I did allergy shots when I was a kid, stopped for some reason, and then got tested again when I was in college and started the shots again. This was the only time I can remember having my symptoms under control…I was on 2 prescription pills, nasal spray, and 4 shots a week. I’m allergic to what seems like the entire environment…pretty much everything that grows outside, pollen, dust, mold, ragweed, dogs, cats, etc.
I’ve been off of the shots for about 4 years now and have been cycling through various OTC antihistimines. I always seem to become immune to them (or something, they stop working) pretty quickly. I have a stuffy nose most of the time but other than that it’s usually not too bad. But for the past 2 months or so I have been MISERABLE. I can barely function some days. Nonstop sneezing, itchy red eyes, itchy throat, completely unable to breathe out of my nose…I’m just a mess, and nothing is working. I probably should have taken action and done something about it before now but…I haven’t.
I feel like it would be beneficial for me to start going to my allergist again, BUT I am moving to South Korea in a month. I’ve read that a lot of people have worse allergy symptoms there due to air pollution…I don’t think I’ll survive if mine get worse, haha. I obviously don’t have time to begin any kind of regimen with an allergist but I feel like I need to do something to get this under control before I leave. I just don’t feel very hopeful since I’ve tried every OTC and prescription medication out there, and the only thing that ever worked was shots.
Any suggestions? Go to a general doctor? Try more over the counter meds? Does anyone have any specific drug suggestions or home remedies? I’m pretty desperate for relief.
